One day when he was five, his father saw him sitting on some eggs, and asked what he was doing that for.He did not reply(回答).Instead he asked why he was not able to hatch(孵化)chickens while the hens could可知,爱迪生坐在鸡蛋上,当他的爸爸问他的时候,他没有回答,反而问他的爸爸他为什么不能像母鸡那样孵小鸡。 故应选A。

Edison was in school for only three months可知,爱迪生在学校只呆了三个月。

By the time he was ten,he had already built a small chemistry lab of his own.

Once his mother was ill.The doctor said she needed an operation at once可知,爱迪生的妈妈生病了,医生说需要…,operation应该跟治病有关,故应选C,是手术的意思。

His teacher did not understand him and said that he was not bright and was not worth teaching可知,A是正确的;根据He showed special interest in science可知B是对的;根据短文最后一段的描述可知C是对的。

Some people have a very poor sense of direction. Unluckily,I am one of them. I have visited a place many times but I may still get lost there the next time.

When I was a little girl,I never dared to ask strangers the way. And so I used to walk round in circles and hope that by chance I would get to the place I was going to.

Now,I am no longer too shy to ask people for directions, but I often receive helpless or even wrong information. So I try to avoid giving people wrong directions. If anyone ever asks me the way somewhere,I would say, "Sorry, I am a stranger here."

Once on my way to work I was stopped by a man. He asked me if I could tell him the way to the Friendship Building. I gave him my usual reply. But just as I walked on only a few steps, I realized that he had asked the way to my office building. However, I had no time to turn back and look for him. I was rushing to meet with someone at my office and I didn't want to keep him waiting.

When I just got to my office, the secretary showed in the man who had asked me for directions. Imagine how embarrassed I was and how surprised he was when we saw each other at the first sight!

Google and Toyota have worked together to create a new smart car. It can run on the road without a driver. It drives itself. The self-driving car hasn’t been on sale to the public, so we don’t know how much it costs. Another thing most people want to know is whether it will be safe enough to run on the road.

The self-driving car uses electricity as its power, and it can’t drive very quickly—the top speed would be 25 miles per hour. It is actually controlled by a computer system (系统) on the car. The system keeps on collecting information by some video cameras inside the car and a LIDAR sensor (激光雷达传感器) on top of it. A computer processes the information and decides what to do. “The self-driving car has only buttons (按钮) for go and stop, so it’s very easy to use,” an engineer of Google says. “And what’s more, it will make car accidents less and make the world a safer place.” The self-driving car has driven hundreds of thousands of miles in California, and it has only gotten into two accidents by human mistake.

According to CNN, self-driving cars will also help to reduce (减少) the number of cars in big cities. “Self-driving cars would be able to send you to the workplace and then pick up another person instead of stopping in a parking lot.”
