【题目】
At night, you fall asleep while listening to beautiful music.【1】You can enjoy all of these things because of one important organ (器官) — the ears. March 3 is Ear Care Day. It helps us remember the importance of our ears and encourages us to take good care of them.
You may wonder: how do the ears work? The ear has three different parts: the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear, The outer ear is the part you can see.【2】The sound then travels down to middle ear, the inner ear and then to your brain.
【3】Your ears keep on hearing sounds, but your brain just ignores them. That’s why you may sometimes wake up suddenly in the middle of the night — your brain heard something, but you don’t know what it was, since you were asleep.
But ears do more than hear.【4】In the inner ear, there are organs that are filled with liquid and covered in small hairs. When you move your head, the liquid and hairs move, too. They send messages to your brain about the position (位置) of your head.
More surprisingly, ears even help with tasting food.【5】But there are nerves ( 神经) running through the middle ear that connect the tongue to the brain.
The ears are truly important organs with many functions (功能). Everyone should make sure to protect their own ears as well as they can.

B. Your ears never stop working, even when you are asleep!
C. In the morning, you are woken up by the singing of birds outside.

Crazy about Selfies
Since the 2014 Oscars ceremony selfie (自拍) of Bradley Cooper stormed the Internet, it seems that every one shows great interest. And now people are sharing even their most private moments. TV star Kim Kardashian could be called “the queen of the selfie”. She’s turned hundreds of her selfies into a book — at every possible moment, in all poses.
If Kardashian is the queen, then you could say Barack Obama is the king. But though Kardashian has nothing to lose by sharing too much, the same can’t be said of the US president. Politicians have to be careful with selfies. The photo he took at the funeral (葬礼) of Nelson Mandela divided public opinions. Some felt it made him look like one of us — glad to record a moment with his “mates”. Others felt the head of state behaved like a crazy teenager.
Unfortunately for the US congressman (国会议员) Anthony Weiner, his habit of sending his private selfies to women killed his political career (事业).
Being crazy about selfies can also harm your health. Todd Fassler from California ended up in hospital after he found a snake — he tried to take a selfie with it. The animal wasn’t interested in the idea and bit him.
Why do we take so many selfies? Dr. Terri Apter, from Cambridge University, told the Daily Telegraph: “We all like the idea of being in control of our image and getting attention, being part of the culture. There’s celebrity (名人) culture — unless you’re being noticed, you’re nobody. You have to get enough attention and show your life is amazing, even if it isn’t.”
The word selfie was Oxford Dictionaries’ word of the year in 2013. But many believe it started much earlier in 1839 as Robert Cornelius, a chemist from Philadelphia, uncovered the lens (镜头), ran into the shot for a minute before running back to cover the lens again. These days, you don’t need to run for a photo anymore and soon, you don’t even have to spread your arms. Now you are even able to take a selfie by drone (无人机)! Fix your camera onto it, and it will follow your every move. Does it sound exciting to you?

【题目】 For many years scientists have said that the earth is getting warmer. Now they have found something new-hot cities! In the southern US, they have found that cities become very hot in summer.
China also has the same kind of problems. Every year more farming land is used for factories or offices. More housing is needed too. As people become richer, they buy more cars. New roads are needed and new car parks are built in the city centres. This all makes the cities hotter.
It is not easy to change the situation(情形). City planners say that we should plant more trees in the middle of cities. ‘Every new street should have trees on both sides,’ they say. Trees make the temperature(温度) lower, so we should have more trees in our parks and squares. Also we should paint our roofs(屋顶) white. If we do this, they do not become so hot. Every roof in a hot and sunny country should have solar(太阳的)roof panels(板). The electricity from these can be used to run the air conditioners in the building.
People continue(继续) to cut down forests around the cities. This makes the problem worse. Cities are growing faster and faster. By the year 2050, 80% of the world’s population will be living in cities. If we go on like this, there will not be enough farmland to feed everyone in the world.
