In the past, many students practiced English with their pen friends — they sent letters to people all around the world. However, we now send emails to others and chat with people who live quite far away on the Internet.
Here's some advice on how to succeed in your online language exchanges:
How to start a conversation when speaking English online When you speak to somebody online, start by asking “Yes or No” questions. Use questions such as “Do you like …?” or “Can you …?” or “Have you ever …?”
Remember your goal. You are trying to learn about the other person. Think about things you enjoy and try to find some common ground between you. And share your own experiences to show that you have similar interests. If you only ask questions, you will sound like a policeman or a policewoman!
How to keep a conversation going “Listen” carefully. In that way, you can get to know somebody well. When you know him or her well, you will have more to talk about.
Then ask follow-up questions. After you “listen”, use what you “hear” to learn more about that person. Use “open ended” questions, such as “What do you think of …?” or “What was the most interesting experience ...?”
Remember some basic rules for online language exchanges.
Be patient. Do not try to find a good friend right away.
Be careful. Don't give any personal information on the Internet, especially your address, telephone number, and even your real name.

【题目】 What do you think of a “talking kitchen”? A French Digital (数字) Kitchen has been developed at Newcastle University in the UK. It teaches students how to cook French food and speak French at the same time. For the first time, students can learn a language by the following cooking steps.

All grammar and vocabulary have been carefully chosen to make sure the users can understand French well. After learning for some time, the users can test themselves by doing a short test on the computer.

The kitchen project was started by Professor Paul Seed house. He became interested in the idea after he visited another kind of talking kitchen. He said, “The purpose (目的) of the French Digital Kitchen is to make learning a language more interesting and more educational.”

How does the kitchen work? There is a computer in the kitchen. With this computer, the users can first choose a French recipe (食谱) that they want to follow. Using information in the computer, the kitchen starts to guide the users how to make a French dish. If you follow the instructions (说明) on the computer, it moves on to the next. If you go wrong, the program goes back and “says” the recipe or information again.

The new kitchen can be used in school, universities and even people’s homes. The researchers will also be developing the European Digital Kitchen, for the next three years.

根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)误(F)。

1According to the passage, we know the digital kitchen cooks all food for people.

2The users can test themselves by doing a short test on paper after learning for some time.

3The French Digital Kitchen can help people learn a language in an interesting and educational way.

4If you go wrong, the program goes back and “says” the recipe or information again.

5The new kitchen can only be used in schools and universities.

【题目】阅读短文,完成表格,每空一词。
In the deserts(沙漠)of North Africa and Saudi Arabia lives the smallest fox with the largest ears. This animal is the fennec fox.
Fennec foxes have ears that are 5 to 6 inches long. That's big for an animal that weighs less than four pounds. Their ears help shed (去除) body heat. And, as you may have guessed, they also provide great hearing.
It's also interesting to think about the hair of fennec foxes. Why would a fox that lives in the desert need a thick, fur coat? Actually, the desert isn't always warm. During the nighttime, a desert can be terribly cold! A fennec fox's fur keeps them warm during those desert nights. They also have long bushy tails that they use as a blanket. And the hair on their feet protects them from the hot sand in the daytime.
Fennec foxes live in small communities of dens (兽穴).They spend most of the day sleeping in their dens, out of the hot sun. Then, when night comes, they come out in search of food. In addition to(除……之外) their great hearing, fennecs also use their great sense of smell and big eyes to track down dinner.
Fennecs eat both meat and plants. They like eating birds, eggs, insects, snails, fruit and leaves best. Fennec fox mothers have one to five babies at a time. Sometimes they are in danger. They have to be careful with predators (捕食性动物), such as caracals (a type of wild cat) , jackals, eagle owls, hyenas and humans. Humans catch them for their fur and to sell as pets.
