B I don't know if the world is really more dangerous now than it was 30 years ago. But I'm sure that it seems that way. The world is a dangerous place. We want our children to know it, 1 they will stay safe. But we don't want them to be afraid all of the time. Fear is a 2 feeling. We need fear to keep us from doing stupid things. But frequent fear is more likely to come down with illness. So, what can you do to keep your child safe, without fear? First, make your home a safe place. Make it a rule that nobody 3 anybody else in your home, neither by deed nor by word. When you have to 4 a scary world, it helps to have a fear-free home base. Let your kids know that most 5 are well-mannered people. It's possible to be 6 without putting yourself in danger. I think that the "never talk to strangers"rule often does more harm than good. Take steps to help those 7 , and let your children help beside you. By helping others, they'll come to expect that others will help them if they ever need it. As parents, we can't make sure that our children will never come to harm. But we will always do everything we can to keep them safe, and to make the world safer for all children and people. The experience of being with others in a neighborhood of 8 and the safety of a peaceful home is what children need to be able to live without fear in a dangerous world. |

For years scientists have been arguing about whether nature or nurture (后天) decides what people will be like. Is it nature-what people are 1 with-that decides what they will be like? 2 is it nurture -what 3 to people when they are born -that decides what they will be like? Scientists have been studying twins to 4 if they can find the answer, because twins start out with the 5 DNA. Sometimes twins don't live together at birth and grow up in different 6 and different places- so the nature is the same for both, but the nurture is different. When scientists 7 these twins in their later life, they some times find some surprising 8 . Jim Springer and Jim Lewis were adopted (收养) by two different families at birth. They first met each other again thirty-nine years 9 and discovered they had a lot in 10 . Both had been 11 twice. Their first wives were both named Linda and their second wives were both named Betty! Each twin had a son - one called his son James Alan and the 12 called his son James Alan, too. Their children each had a dog called "Toy". They even arrived at their first 13 in the same color of car. So far twin 14 seem to show that both nature and nurture are important. What we have from birth, and how and where we live help to build 15 we are. | ||||
