Have you ever heard someone say it was "raining frogs"? You might think this is impossible, but in rare cases, it has actually rained frogs! How could this happen? During a tornado or a powerful thunderstorm, water from a pond or lake can be sucked into the air. This includes anything that is in the water.
The storm continues to move. As it travels, it releases the water into the air. Does this mean that frogs and fish come raining down from the sky? Yes, this is exactly what happens!
Cases of strange things falling down from the sky have been reported for many years. People have seen small frogs, fish, grasshoppers and snails drop from the sky in places like France, India and the United States. Are animals the only things that get swept up by storms? No. In fact, in 1995,it rained soda cans in the United States!

We’ve probably all met someone who likes to show off about where he or she has been. To some people, traveling is all about how many places one has been to. But luckily, the old “been there, seen that” mode is changing.
Last year’s travel trend (趋势) was “experiential travel”. This is where tourists look for ways to get to know local culture and meet local people so they feel less like an outsider.
So what about this year? Can creative tourists get even more out of their traveling experience?
Transformative travel
Transformative (起改变作用的) travel is much like “experiential travel”, but takes it a step further.
It usually goes through three steps – you go to a place that has a very different background from where you live, you learn wisdom from the new culture and the people you meet, and finally you go back home and use the knowledge in your own lives. This last step is how the “transformation” is completed and what separates transformative travel from experiential travel.
Go green
One way to plan a green trip is to travel a shorter distance, which can reduce your carbon footprint (碳排放量). “One trans-Atlantic flight equals a year’s worth of driving, so taking a trip in this way can help protect the environment,” suggested Warren, according to US News.
Another way to go green in your travel plans is to choose a place that will be helped most from your trip. For example, places like Nepal will enjoy an increase in its local economy (经济) through the trip.
Disappearing sights
Some sights at risk of disappearing are also welcoming an increasing number of tourists.
Everett Potter, a USA Today writer, says that the Arctic and Antarctic have attracted more and more tourists since they are being greatly influenced by climate (气候) change.
Another top sight is the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It’s believed that the reef will be seriously harmed in just a few years because of pollution and global warming. Travelers look forward to seeing the coral (珊瑚) “before it’s gone or completely changed”, Potter told US News.

The quick action of Nick helped five people escape a fire on Hope Road. Nick said he usually left his house about 5:30 a.m. to do morning exercises, but that day he decided to stay at home to get his daughter ready for school. As he looked at his neighbor’s house, he realized that it was on fire. “I saw smoke and flames and ran over and started beating on the side of the house, shouting, ‘Your house is on fire! Your house is on fire!’” Nick remembered it was at about 9 a.m. that the firefighters put out the fire.
Beverly Penny and her husband, Clark, along with their younger daughters, were sleeping in the living room next to the kitchen when they heard Nick beating on the walls. She opened the bedroom door and black smoke came in. She managed to get her kids out. Her dog tried to hide under the bed, but Penny caught it by the leg and threw it out of the door. However, chickens in one of the rooms weren’t so lucky.
Firefighters got the call at about 7:05 a.m. “When we arrived with our fire trucks, there were heavy flames outside on the house.” Jerry said. He called Nick a hero, saying that without his quick responses, the result could have been much worse. “The firefighters were fast,” Nick said, “They arrived here within about three minutes.”
“They did a great job and I can’t thank them enough.” Penny said, then looked at what remained in the house and shook her head as tears rolled down in her eyes. “Everything I have is gone. Luckily nobody was hurt in the fire.” She said the fire could have been caused by an electrical problem. “We’ve been having problems with mice, so that we could have had something to do with it.” she added.
1.What do you know about Nick?
A.He left house at 5:30 am that day. B.He has a son who goes to school.

3.When did the fire break out?
A.At about 5:30 am. B.At about 7 am.
C.At about 8 am. D.At about 9 am.

C.Jerry called the police D.Jerry helped Nick escape the fire
5.According to Penny, which of the following might be criticized(批评) for the fire?
