The world is not hungry, but it is thirsty.1. It seems strange that nearly3/4 of the earth is covered with water while we say we are short of water. Why? Because about 97% of water on the earth is sea water which we can't drink or use for watering plants directly. Man can only drink and use 3%—the water that comes from rivers and lakes. 2.

Now more water is needed. The problem is:Can we avoid(避免)a serious water shortage later on? Firstly, we should all learn how to save water. Secondly, we should find out ways to reuse it. Scientists have always been making studies in the field. 3. Today. in most large cities. water is used only once and then runs to the sea or rivers. But it can be used again.4. Even if every large city reused its water. still it would not be enough. Thirdly, there is a lot of water in the sea. What we should do is to separate the salt from the sea water. This is expensive, but it's already used in many parts of the world.5. So you see, if we can find a way out. we'll be in no danger of drying up.

It形式主语;seems strange似乎很奇怪,系表结构;主语从句nearly3/4 of the earth is covered with water while we say we are short of water. 覆盖;be short of…

2本句应是有because引导的原因状语从句的复合句;根据句意,从句应是一般现在时的被动语态,其结构为be+done,故从句应为because some of the water is polluted. 主句应是含有情态动词的句子,应为we can't even make full use of it. And because some of the water is polluted, we can't even make full use of it.

Today现今;in most large cities在大多数大城市中;is used被用;once一次;run to 流入,故答案为:现今, 在大多数大城市中, 水被用了一次就流入了江河或者海洋。

Even if即使;reused its water重复使用它们的水;enough足够的。

主语scientists;谓语are trying to find;宾语a cheaper way;动词不定式to do it做目的状语。 Scientists are trying to find a cheaper way to do it.

Read the passage and fill in the blanks with suitable words(在短文的空格内填入适当的词,使其内容通顺。

In the Renaissance(文艺复兴) Period15001650, people became interested in higher education. They wanted to learn the a1 languages such as Greek and Lat in languages that were used in the old times, and study mathematics, science, and so on. Many universities were set up during the 16th century.

University education was a privilege(特权)of the rich. Girls were not allowed to attend and poor people could not a2 to go. A member of a wealthy family could attend university at the age of ten. He might study in different universities and since the teaching was all d3 in Latin, it didn’t matter which country he studied in. It was not unusual for a young boy to study one year in Italy and another in France with out speaking either French or Italian.

It was p4 in the 16th century to complete university without learning how to read or write. Since books were handwritten, there was not enough to give o5 to each student. Often, only the teacher had book. He would read to students who would memorize what he said. Tests were oral, not written. In fact, many students finished school without ever writing a word

For the not so wealthy, grammar schools were built in towns. They learned basic grammar and mathematics, and took part in Bible study. At home, girls learned washing, cooking, dancing, and the basics of taking care of a household. Poor children r6 attended school.

The Renaissance was a time when learners did not simply accept what they were told. They did scientific experiments themselves to search for a7 to the mysteries of the space. Copernicus calculated that the Earth turned around the sun but was afraid to publish his works for fear that the Church would punish him. Galileo later supported this. The watch, the telescope and some others were some inventions of this period.

Sharks have been around for hundreds of millions of years. 1 Some sharks live near the surface, some live deep in the water, and others on or near the ocean floor.

Sharks are often considered dangerous. We sometimes read about shark attacks in the newspapers. In 1975, the film Jaws was produced and many people were frightened by the great white shark which attacked holiday-makers in a small seaside town in the USA. 2 It can reach 6 meters in length and up to 2,000 kilograms in weight. It has as many as 3,000 sharp teeth, so it can cut a man’s leg with a single bite.

3 The pigmy shark, for example, is only about 20 centimeters in length. There are almost 400 kinds of sharks and more than half of these are less than a meter in length. The biggest sharks of all are not dangerous to humans at all. The basking shark and the whale shark grow to around 12 meters. 4

Only about 25 kinds are dangerous to people. Of these the bull shark is the one that is most likely to attack people. 5 Less than one hundred people are attacked by sharks each year. Indeed, you are far more likely to be killed by a dog or by bees than by a shark, and some scientists believe that sharks only attack people because they mistake them for their favorite food.

A.But none of them has been reported to have attacked people.

B.But not all sharks are like the great white.

C.It swims in very shallow waters where people swim.

D.A shark is a large fish considered to be dangerous to humans.

E.The great white is certainly a terrible creature.

F.They live in oceans and seas all over the world.

G.We can never imagine such things can happen.
