【题目】 There are many important rules which can keep us safe in our daily life.

In a fire

Escaping () from a fire is a serious matter. Knowing what to do during a fire can save your life. It is important to know the ways you can use and show them to everyone in the family. For example, you can use stairways(楼梯), roofs and fire escapes, but no lifts. From the lower floors of buildings, to escape through windows is possible. The second floor window is usually not very high from the ground. It is safer to jump a short way than to stay in a burning building.Windows are also useful while you are waiting for help. Be sure to keep the door closed, before opening the window. Otherwise(否则), smoke and fire may be drawn into the room. Keep your head low next to the window to be sure you get fresh air.

In earthquakes

Here are some tips on how to stay safe in earthquakes. Get under a desk or table, or stand in a corner or under a doorway. Cover your head and neck with your arms. Stay in your seat if in a cinema or a theater. Get below the level of the back of the sea and cover your head and neck with your arms. Try to stay away from kitchens, where there are often many objects that might fall or get hurt.

Traffic rules

It is necessary for all to keep the traffic rules in mind and obey(遵守) them strictly. When one crosses the street, he should take the crosswalk. Keep riding on the right side of the road. When the red light is on, please stop and wait until the green light is on. It is important to let the children know that playing on the road is very dangerous. Helping the aged and children cross the road is always a kind deed. If everyone obeys the traffic rules, it will be much safer to walk or ride on the road.

根据第一段“For example, you can use stairways(楼梯), roofs and fire escapes, but no lifts.”,可知,从火中逃生时是不能做电梯的。故选B

2推理判断题。useless when a fire appears当发生火灾时是无用的;useful in putting out(熄灭)a fire在灭火上是有用的;the only way of escaping from a fire火中逃生的唯一方式;one of the ways of escaping from a fire火中逃生的方式之一。根据原文“to escape through windows is possible.”

Read the passage and fill in the blanks with proper words

Everyone knows animals are our friends. So we should be friendly to them. But some people kill the rare animals, such as pandas, golden monkeys and so on in order to get money. It will cause these animals to disappear soon.

Perhaps the most famous rare animal is panda. Twenty years ago it was nearly extinct (灭绝的). Now, its n1 are growing again. It is even a symbol for wildlife conservation (保存,保护). But many other species have not been as l2 as the panda. Some are already extinct. Today, many more are in serious danger. This is because man hurts them and d3 their habitat. Is it too late to save wildlife?

A serious habitat problem arises (出现) because of pollution or o4 new lands. Habitats take many years to grow again. When the wild animals lose their homes, the natural balance is also changed. If one animal, bird, or insect d5, all the others suffer, too.

This is what is happening in the forests of South America. Africa and Asia. Habitats and animals are disappearing in Europe, too. Since 1947 in Britain, for example, 50% of the woods, low wet land, and 95% of meadows have disappeared. And what has taken the place of these green, natural places? Houses, farms, cities, streets, roads, and factories. Because of this (and pollution too) several British species are dying.

Then, what is the s6 ? There is only one way to save wild animals and wild habitats – conservation. This means man should protect animals in danger by establishing law, opening more national parks, building fewer new roads, planting more forests, and cutting pollution. If not, many wild animals will soon have just one habitat—the zoo!\

If everyone is involved in the p7 of wild life, we’re sure man will be a good friend of animals rather than their enemy.

【题目】 November 5 is World Tsunami(海啸) Awareness Day. Tsunami is a Japanese word for a long, destructive(摧毁性的) ocean wave caused by an undersea earthquake. The goal of the anniversary is to learn from disasters(灾害) of the past and to prepare for the future. Two tsunamis in the last 15 years have changed the way people around the world think about these destructive events.

On December26, 2004, a magnitude (震级) 9 earthquake near the coast of Indonesia caused tsunami waves that struck the coasts of four countries. An estimated(估计的) 230,000 people died and costs were in the billions of dollars. Then, on March 11, 2011, a magnitude 9 earthquake struck northeastern Japan. The tsunami also caused serious damage to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power center on the island of Honshu. Several nuclear reactors( 反应堆) were severely(严重地) damaged and leaked(泄漏) radiation(辐射).

The two events caused people in the Pacific and Indian Ocean areas to study and improve preparedness for disasters. This led to the SendaiFrameworkfor DisasterRiskReductionin 2015 in Sendai, Japan. The agreement was a UN effort to raise awareness(提高意识) about disaster risks and to urge(催促) countries to assess(评估)how well they were prepared for them.

Willem Rampangilei is head of the Disaster Management Agency in Indonesia. He said Indonesia passed a law on disaster management after the 2004 tsunami. It led in 2008 to the creation of his agency. “Our responsibilities include reduction and preparedness, emergency response, as well as post-disaster recovery and reconstruction(重新建设),” he said. He added that 150 million Indonesians were at risk from earthquakes, 60 million from floods and four million from tsunamis.

【题目】 One of life's great treats, for a lover of books( especially fantasy books),is to open a cover to find a map secreted inside and filled with the details of a land about to be discovered. A writer's map shows a fully imagined world. A new book, "The Writer's Map," contains dozens of the magical maps that writers have drawn or that have been made by others to explain the places they've created. " All maps are products of human imagination, "writes Lewis Jones, the book's editor." For some writers making a map is absolutely central to the skills of shaping and telling their tale."

The book includes the map from Thomas More's "Utopia", which were published in 1516 and contained the first fantasy map in a work of fiction, as far as anyone can tell. The book also has the maps that remind fantasy —filled childhoods: Middle Earth, the mystenous Narnia, the Hundred Acre Wood, etc. But there are more maps of private treasures here. too. Among these maps, the one for. "Treasure Island" is a landmark," one of the most typical literary(文学的) mans of all "Lewis Jones writes. It comes up more than once in the book's reviews, which are written by writers and mapmakers. Robert Stevenson first sketched the map in 1881 for his son, and a red X marks the place where treasure was buried.

For many writers, mapmaking is a practical work that pulls them into their own work. “ I always draw my way into stories," writes Abi Elphinstone, the author of the "Dreamsnatcher" books. “ I begin every story I write by drawing a map because it helps me know where my characters move next. Also, making maps is fun." Mapping does have problems. Frances Hardinge, a British children's book writer, explains the worlds she dreams up are"unmappable." 【题目】Answer the question in COMPLETE sentences:

The American newspaper has been around for about three hundred years. In 1721, the printer James Franklin, Benjamin’s older brother, started the New England Courant, and that was what we might recognize today as a real newspaper. He filled his paper with stories of adventure, articles on art, on famous people, and on all sorts of political subjects.

Three centuries after the appearance of Franklin’s Courant, few believe that newspapers in their present printed form will remain alive for long. Newspaper companies are losing advertisers, readers, market value, and in some cases, their sense of purpose at a speed that would not have been imaginable just several years ago. The chief editor of the Times said recently, “At places where they gather, editors ask one another, ‘How are you?’ as if they have just come out of the hospital or a lost law case.” An article about the newspaper appeared on the website of the Guardian, under the headline “NOT DEAD YET”.

Perhaps not, but the rise of the Internet, which has made the daily newspaper look slow and out of step with the world, has brought about a real sense of death. Some American newspapers have lost 42% of their market value in the past three years. The New York Times Company has seen its stock drop by 54% since the end of 2004, with much of the loss coming in the past year. A manager At Deutsche Bank suggested that stock-holders sell off their Times stock. The Washington Post Company has prevented the trouble only by changing part of its business to education; its testing and test-preparation service now brings in at least half the company’s income.

1What can we read in the first real newspaper?

2People don’t think that newspapers in their present printed form will last for long, do they?

3Why has the Internet been a great threat to the development of newspapers?

4Which newspapers was found a new way for its development, the New York Times or the Washington Post?

5How does the writer seem to feel about the future of newspapers?
