¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ Jeanne Johnson lives near the ocean (º£Ñó) in the USA. She is worried about the danger of tsunamis (º£Ð¥), so she bought a tsunami escape pod (ÌÓÉú²Õ).

The pod is a bright orange ball. It is not very big, just 1.37 metres across. Two people can fit inside. It has a watertight (²»Â©Ë®µÄ) door and some windows. The pod can even provide air for the people inside and show where they are.

Julian Sharpe made the pod. He got the idea after a tsunami in 2004 in the Indian Ocean. It killed more than 226,000 people. He was on vacation near the ocean with his family. His kids were very young. Sharpe wondered how he could keep them safe if a tsunami happened. Then in 2011, a tsunami killed about 16,000 people in Japan. This was when Sharpe really started designing and making an escape pod strong enough to protect people from a tsunami.

Jeanne spent $13,500 on the pod. She has put some water, food, warm clothes and a radio in it. And she is practising getting into it quickly.

¡°The pod is really not comfortable,¡± said Jeanne. ¡°But it¡¯s better than nothing. I don¡¯t think too much about tsunamis now. I can sleep well at night.¡±

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ Winter is cold and it can be difficult for animals to find food during winter. They get through winter in many ways.

Would you like to go to a warm place for the winter? That¡¯s what migratory (ǨáãµÄ) animals do. When the weather starts to get cold, migratory animals like some birds and butterflies fly to a warmer place, and then they come back in spring.

Another good way to get through winter is to sleep through it. Many animals hide and sleep during the winter. Their body temperature drops and hearts beat more slowly. This helps them to save their energy. They do not eat. They live off their fat. They wake up when the weather gets warmer. We call this hibernation (¶¬Ãß). Snakes, frogs and bears hibernate in winter.

Many animals stay active in winter and adapt to (ÊÊÓ¦) the cold weather. Some animals save food in summer and autumn and eat it in winter. This is what squirrels do. Other animals make changes in their bodies or behavior (ÐÐΪ). To keep warm, some animals grow thicker coats in winter. Some animals eat different kinds of food as the seasons change. The red fox eats fruit and insects in the other three seasons, but eats small rodents (Äö³ÝÀදÎï) in winter. Other animals change colour. The arctic (±±¼«µÄ) fox is brown in summer. Its coat turns white in winter.

How do you live through the winter? Do you wear a thick coat? Do you stay inside? Or do you live in a warm place?
