important 重要的;importantly 重要地;more important 更重要;the most important 最重要。

is 是,单数;are 是,复数;was 是,过去式;were 是,过去式。

well 好;good 好的;better 更好;best 最好。 故选A

for 为了;on 在……上;to 到……;with 和;伴随。add…to…

a 一个;an 一个;the 这个;/ 零冠词。

when 什么时候;whether 是否;which 哪一个;that 那个。it’s said that…

In Singapore, primary and high school students take outdoor-skills courses as part of their studies. They are usually three to five days long and include rope and rock climbing, going to sea in a small boat, sleeping in a tent at night, taking long walks in the forest, and learning to make a fire. It's real life. One careless mistake could make someone get really hurt. Are those outdoor skills really important?

Minister of Education Ng Chee Meng says that the outdoor courses help students develop skills like critical thinking (批判性思维), teamwork, and good communication — abilities that are necessary for work and life. He believes that these skills are as important as traditional subjects. Students need to learn from books, but for some lessons, reading isn't as useful as doing.

What do the students think? Angelique, a student from Singapore, went for a boat trip in the sea.“It helped me to grow stronger,” she says. She felt nervous because it was stormy that day. There were moments when she felt afraid and hopeless. But she remembered that“smooth seas never made a skilled sailor (水手)” and felt brave enough to continue against the storm.“I am thankful for this amazing chance,” she says.

Right now, students attend the courses with groups from their own school. After 2020, however, all students will do the course in groups from several different schools. One student said it this way, “Nothing's impossible.”And that's a great lesson to learn.

School backpacks have been a hot topic in China recently. Some Chinese parents buy hardcover school backpacks from Japan, although they can be as expensive as 5,000 yuan, according to Chinese newspaper Urban Express. These backpacks are popular because the hard cover helps hold books in place. This can help kids keep their balance and protect their spines(脊柱). But it turns out that the bags can barely fit in the students’ desks.

A good backpack is important for children’s health. “It can relieve (减轻) pressure from the shoulders,” says Dr Rob Danoff from the US. He also says students need a backpack that’s made for the child’s size. Cushioned (加垫的) backs and shoulder straps (带子) will help them avoid pain.

However, the biggest problem for school backpacks is that they are too heavy, noted Hou Weiguang, a doctor in Chengdu. In China, students have many textbooks and exercise books. The weight makes many kids suffer from side-bending (侧弯的) spines, Hou said. He suggests that a backpack should be no more than 15 percent of a child’s body weight to avoid pain or injury.

Parents need to make sure their kids only carry what they need. Schools and governments need to help too, added Zheng Yongshun, an education official from Hong Kong. He said schools should offer locker (储物柜) space and shared books so kids can carry fewer books.

1Why are hardcover school backpacks popular?

A.Because they are quite expensive.B.Because they are made in Japan.

C.Because they can perfectly fit into desks.D.Because they help protect kids’ spines.

2According to Dr Rob Danoff, good backpacks should________.

A.be smaller than childrenB.put pressure on shoulders

C.have cushioned backsD.have shorter shoulder straps

3If a student weighs 50kg, how heavy should a backpack be?

A.More than 50kgB.Less than 50kgC.More than 7.5 kg.D.Less than 7.5 kg.

4The last paragraph is written to offer tips on________.

A.how to choose good backpacks

B.how to reduce the weight of backpacks

C.how to encourage students to share books

D.how to design lockers for students

5Where is the text most probably from?

A.a shopping advertisementB.A science magazineC.A shopping poster D.A guidebook
