Recently, Chongqing Three Gorges University has held an activity named ¡°Cell Phone Ninja¡±(ÊÖ »úÈÌÕß). They would like their students not to use cell phones for 21 days. It is really a challenge( Ìô Õ½)for most students.
The activity started on April 12. Each student who volunteered to take part in this activity got a bracelet(ÊÖ»·). If the students did not use their cell phones, there would be a photo on the screen of the
bracelet to show that. If they used their cell phones, a different photo would appear on the screen of the bracelet. After the last class of each day, the students sent the photos to the school¡¯s public Wechat.
More than 800 students wished to take part in this test, and 400 were chosen. After seven days, only 103 students remained. The test was set for 21 days because some scientists believe that 21 days is long enough to help people form a habit.
According to the teachers in the university, the activity was not a competition. It depended on students themselves to make the decision. The teachers hoped their students could form better study habits through activities like this one.
1.When did the activity ¡°Cell Phone Ninja¡± start?
2.How many students were chosen to take part in this test?
3.What is 21 days long enough for?
4.Who made the decision in the activity?
5.Where did the students send the photos ?

In the past two days, I¡¯ve been to two very different bookstores. They were both in Beijing, and both attracted people in their 20s and 30s. So why were they so different? Because one store was for Chinese people, and one was for Westerners.
At the Western bookstore, in Sanlitun, the books put on display in front¡ªthe ones expected to be the most popular¡ªwere biographies (´«¼Ç), books about history, and books about politics and current (ÏÖÔÚµÄ) events. Farther back, there was a big shelf full of novels.
At the Chinese store, at the Beijing airport, there were very few books on history, and books on politics and current events were even harder to find. There were a few biographies, but they seemed to be of an instructive (½ÌÓýÐÔµÄ) nature; almost all of them were about rich people, and how they got rich. What the store did have was lots and lots of books on how to learn English.
As a Westerner, I found this surprising. The kinds of books I¡¯m used to seeing people read¡ªthe kinds that were at the first store¡ªare the kinds people read to escape (ÌÓÍÑ) their daily lives. But here most of the books were on how to get rich and how to study English¡ªhow to work better and how to study better.
These Chinese books offered no escape from daily life¡ªonly ways to improve it. Perhaps this is another area where Westerners and Chinese people can learn from each other. We Westerners could certainly read a bit more for practical purposes (Ä¿µÄ). But I also think Chinese people might benefit (ÊÜÒæ) from more of something my teachers always encouraged: Reading for fun.
