【题目】 On a cold November afternoon, my mother and I were walking back home from a pizza store. We had bought many things. We were dressed warmly, and I was feeling a little tired as I was carrying our shopping bag. I decided to throw something away. I was walking towards a dustbin when I noticed a poor man walking out of the restaurant in front of us. He headed over to the nearby dustbin and started looking through it.

I suddenly felt very sorry because I was about to throw away new drink just because it was too heavy. I walked up to him and handed the drink and some bread over to him. The man looked up in surprise and took what I gave him.

A huge smile appeared on his face. I felt I couldn't be happier with myself. But then he said"Wow, this is my son's lucky day!"

With that, he thanked me happily and started off on his bike. I even heard him singing as he rode away. It gave me a warm feeling inside. I now understand what it means when someone says, "Giving is getting." Though it was only a small act, I learned more in those two minutes than I did in the rest of the month. Everyone in the world needs help. Everyone can give help and everyone can be helped.

【题目】

A shy 15-year-old boy was heartbroken to hear that his favorite teacher Kim or Miss K was retiring from her position. So she could do something for Beat Disease—a group that raises money for medical research.

To help Miss K, Waylon decided to take the pig he’d raised and auction(拍卖) it off at the town fair and give away all the money. But after several people heard about his unselfishness, the auction took a very unexpected turn.

The boy had e-mailed his situation to several companies who would be buying—hoping they would bid(出价) higher than the usual price of $3-to-4 per pound. His plan worked. When the bidding kicked off, the price jumped to $11, but then one of the bidders, Dan, had an idea and reached an agreement with his competitors. He won the bidding on the pig. Then he gave it back to be auctioned again. The second winner bought it for $10 a pound, but then he gave it back, too.

Then, a third competitor, Dave Moll, was free to buy—he, too, unexpectedly gave away the pig back for a third time. Dave Moll, who is Waylon’s father’s boss, said, “I hadn’t planned to spend that much money or give the pig back. But that’s what the people ahead of me did, and I felt like it was the right thing to do, so I did.”

The pig was finally bought and sold a fourth time for $5.50 per pound, meaning that Waylon managed to raise $10,070 for his teacher’s charity. “I did not see that happening,” Waylon said. “Usually, they just sell it once!My dream got bigger and bigger every time they said, ‘Give it back.’”

“I’m so proud of him; he is unusual,” Miss K said. “He doesn’t know the influence that he is having. Someday he will.”

1Why did Waylon auction his pig off?

A.Because he wanted to buy Miss K a present.

B.Because he wanted to make money for himself.

C.Because he wanted to help Miss K raise money.

D.Because he wanted to make money for his education.

2Waylon sent e-mails to these companies to_____________ .

A.sell the pig at a better priceB.tell them how good the pig was

C.ask them if they would buy the pigD.tell them where the auction would be held

3What can we infer from Paragraph 4?

A.Waylon’s father is a good boss.

B.The pig was bought by Dave Moll at last.

C.People didn’t expect Dave Moll to return the pig.

D.Dave Moll didn’t want to keep the pig himself at first.
