The world itself is becoming much smaller by using modem traffic and modern communication means (通讯设备). Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution. To pollute means to make things dirty. Pollution comes in many ways. We see it, smell it, drink it and even hear it.
Man has been polluting the earth. The more people, the more pollution. Many years ago, the problem was not so serious because there were not so many people. About one hundred years ago, many educated (受教育的) people spoke French when they met people from other countries. Today most people speak English when they meet foreigners. English has become the new international (国际的) language. There are more people who speak English as a second language than people who speak English as a first language. Why?
There are many reasons why English has become so popular. One of them is that English has become the language of business.
