After shaking the east coast of Honshu, Japan on March 11, the earthquake has caused more than 10, 000 deaths and 17, 000 people missing. In downtown of Tokyo, buildings shook and frightened citizen blocked out all the streets and roads. The tsunami(飓风)afterwards, which caused more deaths and injury, made Japanese people unable to cheer up. “Now that our neighbors are in trouble,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman said, “we are in our turn to give a hand. Our rescue team has already got there in time to help.” The terrible earthquake also caused a big fire breaking out at the Fukushima nuclear power plant(福岛核电站), leading to a radiation leaking(泄漏).
50 nuclear workers, facing radiation and fire, became the only people remaining at the Fukushima nuclear power plant on Tuesday — and perhaps Japan’s last chance of preventing a broader nuclear danger. They have volunteered to put seawater on dangerous nuclear fuel(核燃料)to cool it down, to prevent thousands of tons of radioactive dust high into the air. Some scientists suggest that the leaking is harmful to human being and may influence human body through rain or snow from the sky in the future.

BEING an astronaut sounds cool, doesn’t it? In space, they get to do some pretty amazing things, like floating(漂浮) in zero gravity(重力).
However, there are also plenty of things that astronauts can’t do because of their weightless environment, and that’s very sad. What’s worse, they can’t even let their sadness show, because it’s impossible to cry in zero gravity.
Of course, astronauts can still produce tears(眼泪). But crying is much more difficult in space, according to The Atlantic(大西洋月刊) in January. Without gravity, tears don’t flow(流动) down out of the eyes like they do here on Earth. This means that when you cry in space, your tears have nowhere to go — they just stick(粘) to your eyes.
In May 2011, astronaut Andrew Feustel experienced this during one of his spacewalks. “Tears,” he said, “don’t fall off of your eyes. They just stay there.”
Besides making your vision(视线) unclear, this can also cause physical pain. Back on Earth, tears are supposed to bring comfort to the eyes. But that’s not the case(情况) in space. The space environment dries out astronauts’ eyes, and when tears suddenly wet the eyes, it can cause pain rather than comfort. “My right eye is stinging(刺痛) like crazy,” Feustel told his teammate during the walk.
Since gravity doesn’t work in space, astronauts need some extra help to get rid of(除去) the tears. Feustel chose to rub his eyes against his helmet to wipe(擦) the tears away. Another choice is to just wait — “When the tears get big enough, they simply break free of the eyes and float around,” astronaut Ron Parise told The Atlantic.
There are lots of small things — things like crying — that we are so used to on Earth. We usually take them for granted until they become a problem in a totally different environment, like space. There, astronauts can’t talk to each other directly. They also can’t eat or drink in normal ways. They can’t even burp(打嗝), because there is no gravity to hold the food down in their stomach. If they do burp, they just end up throwing up(呕吐) everything in their stomach, according to the UK National Space Center.
Therefore, perhaps it’s only space explorers who can honestly say, “Gravity, you’re the best.”

Most people hope to have a memory which helps them succeed in study, work and life. Can memory be improved? Luckily, hundreds of studies in the past 50 years have already given us a definite* answer.
A healthy lifestyle keeps your brain young and memory sharp. First of all, it is necessary to have a healthy diet. Eating more food rich in B vitamins and Vitamin E, such as vegetables and lean meat, helps you have a better memory. Doing exercise can keep your brain alive, too. Proper exercise provides much needed oxygen for the brain. Running ,riding a bike ,swimming and even walking two or three times a week are helpful. Moreover, getting enough sleep is important. Only when your brain gets a good rest, can it work well. The healthier your lifestyle is, the better your memory will become, but do not expect a sudden change---it takes a long time to make a difference.
Memory skills help you remember things better. The following three are the most widely used. Chunking* is a way of remembering a piece of information by cutting it into smaller ones. For example, to memorize a ten--digit telephone number 2127983630,you can divide the digits into three groups: first 212,then 798,and lastly 3630.This method is far more effective than remembering a string* of 10 digits. Organization means organizing information into groups of the the same kind. For example, trees, grass and flowers are plants; tigers, panadas, horses and cows are animals ,Imagery is remembering newly learnt information by using your imagination and connecting it with something that you are familiar with.
However, memory skills will hardly work if you don’t understand the information. What’s more, only a regular review can make the memory last long. That is why students are always advised to go over what they have learnt after one day and then after three days, and then use it as regularly as possible.
Human brains are like muscles that need nutrients and exercise to become stronger. If you make a few lifestyle changes and try some memory skills, you can certainly improved your memory.

A tsunami(海啸) is a series of(一系列) huge waves that can cause great destruction(毁灭) when they hit a beach. Most tsunamis are caused by underwater earthquakes, but not all underwater earthquakes cause tsunamis. About 90 percent of all tsunamis take place in the Pacific Ocean, most of them are in Japan. A strong earthquake in the ocean near Japan caused a deadly tsunami on March 11,2011. As of April 25, the number of death had been raised to 14,133, and more than 13,346 people were listed as missing. The word “tsunami” comes from the Japanese word.

Many tsunamis could be found before they hit land with the use of modern technology. If you see the water drawback (后退) quickly and unexpectedly from a beach, run toward higher ground or inland -- there may be a tsunami coming. Also, if you are on the beach and there is an earthquake, it may have caused a tsunami, so run toward higher ground or inland. The first wave in a tsunami is often not the largest; if you experience one unusually-huge wave, go inland quickly -- even bigger waves could be coming soon.
Do you know the story of the "angel(天使) of the beach"? Tilly, A 10-year-old English schoolgirl who saved the lives of hundreds of people in Phuket,Thailand in the Asian Tsunami of 2004 , by warning them a wall of water was about to strike(袭击), after learning about tsunamis in geography class. “Last term geography teacher Andrew Kearney taught us about earthquakes and how they can cause tsunamis,” Tilly said to the reporter.“I was on the beach and the water started to go funny.
