Last summer I went to one of the world's most famous historical places, the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. It was the home of the emperors of the last two dynasties.
The Forbidden City was built in 1420 in Ming Dynasty. The emperor Shunzhi of Qing Dynasty moved into it in 1644. It was where the emperors dealt with the official business with their ministers.
The Forbidden City is called the Purple Forbidden City. However, the color of the palace, itself is not purple. The color purple stands for power of the great emperors of China. It was so sacred（神圣的）that the common people could not even dream of going in.
The emperors liked different kinds of activities to celebrate all the traditional festivals in the Forbidden City. During Chinese New Year, the emperor would invite all the members of his family and his officials to a banquet. The banquet had a hundred and eight Chinese dishes. It was such an expensive banquet that it could feed a common family for three generations（代）.
Right now the Forbidden City is known as a historical site for tourists from all over the world. Everyone can go in there, and it is a museum with priceless Chinese treasures in it.
I really learned a lot about the Chinese culture and its history from this trip to the Forbidden City. It was like a dream coming true to go on the trip and see the things that I have always wanted to see.

From Heathrow Airport, get on the Tube --- there’s only the Piccadilly Line there. You’ll pass a lot of stations, but you need to get off and change at Piccadilly Circus. From there, you should take the Bakerloo Line to Oxford Circus. It’s only one stop, so don’t miss it! At Oxford Circus, you have to change again. You need the red Central Line. It’s a bit complicated, so you make sure you will get the right platform（站台）. Head to Marble Arch. It’s just two stops away --- the one after Bond Street. My house is really near Marble Arch Station --- it’s really convenient. Just give me a call when you arrive and I’ll come and get you!
It’s not the shortest route here, but I think it’s the simplest. If you have any problems, just ask the other passengers. The Tube staff（职员）will always help you, too. If you have difficulty understanding what they say or none of them can give you any help, call me at once!
