    Plans for the weekend

    　　Ken：Right, this weekend we should get up early so we can do more things!

    　　Jack：We can go to the noodle shop at 8 a. m．for some food．

    　　Ken：Okay, and at 9 a. m．we can go to the stadium and play basketball．Then we are going to the park for a picnic lunch with my family．

    　　Jack：And then we are going to the computer center．

    　　Ken：Right－we can buy some computer books, and then we can go to my house to check our e-mail and then watch television．

    　　Jack：Saturday’s going to be fun, but what are we going to do on Sunday?

    　　Ken：I know－get up at 8 a. m., go to the park at 9 and go on the lake in a boat．

    　　Jack：Yes, we can have hamburgers for lunch!

    　　Ken：Great－I love hamburgers!

    　　Jack：Amy is having a party in the afternoon－do you want to go?

    　　Ken：I can’t－I have a test on Monday－so I have to stay home to do my homework and then revise!

    　　Jack：Yes, I should study too．Oh, well, see you tomorrow

    Idioms are phrases and sentences that do not mean exactly what they say. Even if you know the meaning of each word you see or hear, you may not understand the idiom because you don't understand the culture behind it.
    For example, if an American boy asks his mother what's for dinner tomorrow, she may say “I'll play it by ear”, that means she doesn't have plans for dinner and she will decide later. "Play by ear" used to mean playing music using the sheet music, but now people often use it when they're not talking about music.

They can be difficult to remember sometimes. Next time when you hear somebody saying to you, "Give me a hand", you don't necessarily stretch out your hand to him/her, but you do need to be helpful. And when the situation is out of hand, you usually can do very little to manage all that. What about a green hand? It's not about the color of your hand! You're a green hand when you are very new at your work and don't have much experience. If you and your partner always work together hand in glove, you two definitely work together very well.

    In general, it's hard to spend enough time in both concentrating on lessons and taking part in social activities. But I wanted to succeed in both. I knew this would be a challenge but I didn't realize how difficult it was until my classes in the high school began,

         I got on well with other girls. After school, I often had ice cream with them first instead of finishing my homework before it was time to hand it in, I always finished it the next day between classes.I knew it wasn't very good and the grades that I got showed I was not hard-working enough.          So I created a timetable that would divide my time between studying and relaxing. It was a good idea but I was only able to follow it for a few days because it made me under too much pressure.

         Later, I tried another plan. Each week I listed everything that I had to get done during the week and the time by which I had to get it done. Then under the things I had to do, I made another list of things that I could do if I had time.

         It worked really well. Ever since I have never missed any important things. At the same time, I enjoyed my spare time a lot.

         Planning my time has been challenging, but I continue to do it. I'm glad that I've learned to balance things and it has helped prepare for what is coming after graduation.
