Carl, one of the American exchange students, said that curry is one of his favourite food. Daniel wants to learn more about curry. He has found this article on the Internet. Read it with him.
Curry around the world
"Curry" is the English word used to describe meat or vegetables in a spicy sauce, usually served with rice. It is believed that the word "curry" comes from the Tamil word "kari".
Curries have been very popular dishes in many Asian countries throughout history. Although curry is believed to originally come from India,it has been eaten in many other Asian countries—such as Pakistan,Bangladesh,Sri Lanka,Nepal,Indonesia,Malaysia and Thailand—for thousands of years.
Today curries are eaten all over the world. This tasty and spicy dish was brought to the West by British people from India in the 17th century.
What we call "curry" today is an international dish that is well known around the world. Over time and distance, the flavours of dishes change so that the people eating the dish will like it. For example, the most popular curry in restaurants in the UK is called chicken tikka masala. Many British people think this is an Indian dish. However,it is really a dish created by restaurants in the UK and is not a traditional Asian dish at all.
Today curry is loved by people all over the world, unless,of course, they do not like spicy food!

Dear Disney,
Last weekend, the four members of my family spent an enjoyable holiday at the Magic Kingdom—Disneyland. And one event made our visit seem truly magical.
We got to the front of the line at Space Mountain, only to find out that our little daughter Gloria couldn’t take her ice-cream on the ride. We were so excited that we all forgot ice-cream was not allowed on the ride.
Gloria broke into tears and we all had no idea what to do. Then Murphy, one of the staff (员工) members, came over. (B1 One of Millie's favourite British writers is jane Austen. She wonts to find out more about the writer. She has found this article on the Internet. Read it with her.
Jane Austen—a great British writer
Jane Austen is one of Britain's greatest female writers. She was born on 16 December 1775. She was the seventh of eight children and never lived apart from her family. To entertain themselves, the children wrote and performed plays. Even as a little girl,Jane was encouraged to write.
As a young woman,Jane enjoyed dancing, and she went to many parties that were held in the great houses of the neighbourhood. She loved the country and enjoyed long country walks.
At the age of 14 ,Jane Austen wrote her first novel,Love and Friendship. In her early twenties she began to write her most famous novels—Sense and Sensibility,Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey. Yet these books were not published until many years later. Northanger Abbey was not published until 1818 —a year after her death.
Sadly,Jane became very ill while she was still young. She died in her sister's arms on 18 July 1817. None of the books that were published in Jane Austen's lifetime had her name on them—they were described as being written "by a lady” .
