Paul was my little brother, and he was special. He was different from me because he sat in a wheelchair, and he was blind. Lots of times when we walked with Paul, other kids came over and asked us why he was in his chair and why he couldn’t s1 . They thought he was different because he had his own school bus and had to go to a s2 school. But that’s not really the reason. Paul was different for the things just our family knew about—only we knew the s3 that made him special.

Paul helped me hear small sounds. Every time I was w4 him, I’d have to beg quietly to hear the flying birds and the talking trees he heard.

Paul helped me exercise. When we went for a walk, we’d often go up hill. When I pushed his chair all the way to the woods at the t5, I was really getting my exercise!

Paul h6 ever complained(抱怨). He went along with whatever the rest of us wanted to do. One time when he had a fever, he got uncomfortable, but he never shouted or fought or asked me to switch the TV channel.

Sometimes Paul let me put things in his hand. We played a kind of guessing game. I put different toys there for him to f7. He was always surprised when I let him hold something new.

Paul was my friend. He couldn’t talk to me like most of my friends, and he couldn’t run outside to play. But he was t8 for all the peaceful times, and he had the best smile in the world.

I was 19 to grow up with him as his sister. He helped me to realize that there is a good side to every situation, if we simply m10 the choice to find it.

【题目】 There was once a farmer who had an excellent olive(橄榄树)orchard(果园). He was very hard-working and the farm always prospered(繁荣)with his efforts. But he knew that his three sons didn’t like the farm work at all and they were thirsty for wealth.

When the farmer felt that his life had to come to an end, he called his three sons to him and said, “Dear sons, there is a pot of gold hidden somewhere in the olive orchard. Go and dig for it if you want it.”

【题目】阅读下文并回答问题。

First, a company called Lava Mae came up with the idea of mobile showers (移动淋器) for the homeless. Now, two young Australian men have created a similar laundry service (洗衣服务), called Orange Sky, for the homeless.

Lucas and Nicholas have been volunteering at the city’s charities for several years. They came up with the idea in July, 2017. They noticed that when the organizations handed out free clothes, many homeless people took more than they needed and threw them over the next few weeks.

Then they realized that it was simply because the clothes were dirty. Though there are two places in the city that provide a free washing service, one is open only three days a week, while the other is always booked up. On the other hand, most homeless people don’t have any money to wash their clothes at a laundry. So a mobile laundry seemed to be the perfect idea.

Setting it all up was not easy. The first challenge they faced was figuring out how to fit two washing machines into the old van (厢式送货车) they bought for their mobile laundry. Their bigger challenge was getting the city to consider them as a charity. Finally, by October 2017, Orange Sky Laundry was open!

Now they offer their services at six locations. In the last four months, Lucas and Nicholas have not only been able to help homeless people, but also attracted 120 volunteers. With their support, the young men hope to set up similar services in fifteen Australian cities by the end of 2018.

Why did they choose the name, “Orange Sky”? Because orange is their favorite color and also the title of their favorite song.

1Was the laundry service called Orange Sky?

【题目】 Attitude towards Space Trip

Do you want to spend a 10-day visit at the International Space Station? We have interviewed teenagers from around the world. They have different opinions about space trip.

Simon from England

“There are so many beautiful places to see on the earth. I'd like to visit these places first before spending lots of money going into space. I think it should be cheap enough for everyone to go, not just the rich and famous.”

Ben from Canada

“I think space travel is really bad for the space environment. We are sending more objects into space. When two objects in space crash, they break into smaller pieces and become space junk floating around. It's very dangerous for the tourists to travel in spaceship! ”

Maria from Germany

“Whether you like it or not, space trip is going to be an important thing in the future. It's a great idea to travel in space. I hope in 50 years' time that taking a holiday in space will be common. I'd really love to do it.”

Yoko from Japan

“Why do we want to travel into space? I'd rather go on holiday and stay in a hotel. It must be very boring to sit for hours in that small space shuttle(舱). I'd like to take a plane and go to another place on the earth.”
