Dear Mike,

¡¡¡¡How are you? I¡¯m really glad that you are interested in traditional Chinese festivals. Spring Festival is the most important traditional festival in China.

¡¡¡¡Days before the festival, people clean their houses. They think cleaning sweeps all the bad luck. They decorate their houses with paper cuts. On the eve of the festival, family members get together and have big meals. Then they watch the Spring Festival Gala on TV. At midnight, they usually set off fireworks to say goodbye to the old year and welcome the New Year. During the festival, kids get lucky money from old people. People visit their relatives and friends. They wish to be happy and lucky all year long. How happy we are!

Best wishes!

Yours,

¡¡Liu Wei

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ Drinking milk every day is good for your health. However, if one day someone gives you a cup of cow-free milk, will you still want to have a drink?

Recently, an American company named Perfect Day surprised the world with its synthetic (ºÏ³ÉµÄ) milk. The milk looks and tastes almost like cow milk and has all the same nutrients (ÓªÑøËØ).

The creators of Perfect Day are two young scientists, Ryan Pandya and Perumal Gandhi. Working in different cities, they didn¡¯t know each other at first. But they shared the same crazy idea about making milk without the help from cows. They thought it would make the world a kinder, greener place. After they met, they started working on a way of making their dream a reality.

The secret to making cow-free milk? Yeast (½Íĸ), 3D printing technology and old fermentation processes (·¢½Í·½·¨). They have developed a process quite like making beer. The two scientists also say their milk has longer shelf life than the real milk. What¡¯s more, it¡¯s delicious, safe and Earth-friendly. ¡°We want people to enjoy our milk, while leaving a kinder footprint on the planet,¡± say the two young men.

However, they also know it will be a long way before people accept their synthetic milk.

Before people accept the synthetic milk, maybe we should do something to reduce waste. A store in Scotland is doing such a thing. It sells milk in a vending machine (×Ô¶¯ÊÛ»õ»ú). The vending machine allows people to refill their glass bottles with fresh milk. ¡°The milk vending machine lets us work with a local farm to get really tasty milk for our customers without wasting plastic containers (¼¯×°Ïä),¡± one worker from the store said. It helps to save the store about one hundred plastic containers a day.

A road is a bridge between two places. The Silk Road has been a bridge between East and West for more than 2,000 years.

But did you know that the Silk Road is not a single route? It is actually a series of trade and cultural transmission£¨´«ËÍ£©routes. It started to take shape during the Western Han Dynasty. The trade route started from the city of Xi'an in Shaanxi Province and ended in eastern Europe, near today¡¯s Turkey and the Mediterranean Sea£¨µØÖк££©. The Silk Road was about 6,500 kilometers long. It went across one-fourth of the planet.

The Silk Road got its name because Chinese silk used to be carried along this road. In addition to silk, jade £¨Óñ£©, tea and iron also went west to Rome. From the West came glass, gems£¨±¦Ê¯£©, and foods like carrots and sesame.

The Silk Road was very important to both China and the rest of the world. In addition trade, knowledge about science, arts and literature, as well as craftsmanship and technology, was shared across the Silk Road. In this way, languages and cultures developed and influenced each other.

Today, various historical sites along the Silk Road are popular travel destinations, such as the Terracotta Warriors£¨±øÂíÙ¸£©in Xi¡¯an and Mogao Grottoes£¨Äª¸ß¿ß£© in Dunhuang, Gansu .A new train line, the New Orient Express, is running from Beijing across the Silk Road.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Are you really a nice person? Being nice means full of love and purity£¨´¿½à£©.

¡¾1¡¿ You should be full of qualities and virtues£¨ÃÀµÂ£©like politeness, kindness, tenderness, generous, forgiving etc.

You are nice means you are kind to yourself first because being nice you are sowing seeds for your future then you are truly nice to others. The one who doesn't think good for himself can never be good to others. Love yourself, accept yourself because you are here for some reason just like everybody is here for some reason.

¡¾2¡¿

The big sign of nice people is they always ready to help anyhow. They understand the pain of others as their own pain and they never give pain to others. Nice people always speak less and talk sweetly, they always take care to speak, never hurt anyone's heart by mistake. Kindness is a big virtue and one should be kind to everybody specially with poor people.¡¾3¡¿

Some people are silent and are considered weak. Silence is a beauty of nice people just like charity. Being silent means they are not interested in quarrels or hurting someone. ¡¾4¡¿ As Abhishek Tiwari said, ¡°Do not take me for granted, being nice is not a matter of weakness, it is a matter of choice.¡±

¡¾5¡¿ They are naturally nice. Their actions show it. My dad never tried to please others. Whatever he did, he did selflessly. We have got a great lesson from himthat being nice is very important, not only for others but for your own self as well.

A. Nice people never try to become nice.

B. They love peace and they spread peace.

C. So accept yourself and others as they are.

D. Being nice means being kind with everyone.

E. Have you ever thought of importance of being nice?

F. You should know how to behave with people specially those who are poor.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ When your pen is broken, the battery in your toy runs out, or you have some leftover food, what do you do with these things? You will probably throw them all into one bin£¨À¬»øÏ䣩. But actually, all kinds of rubbish need to be sorted£¨·ÖÀࣩseparately.

Garbage sorting is a big issue worldwide. In recent years, some Chinese cities have been working. hand on it Shanghai has worked with Alipay to create a ¡°green account£¨ÕË»§£©¡± service for its residents£¨¾ÓÃñ£©. Account holders get points by sorting their rubbish correctly. Through the Alipay app, they ran exchange the points for milk, phone cards and other products. The city is asking all of its residents to sort their rubbish into four groups: wet, recyclable£¨¿É»ØÊյģ©, harmful and dry.

Wet waste is also known as household waste. "They are things you don't want but that pigs can eat," Guangzhou Daily explained.

Paper, metal£¨½ðÊô£©glass and other things that can be reused are recyclable waste.

Harmful waste includes things like medicine, batteries and fluorescent bulbs£¨Ó«¹âµÆµÆÅÝ£©

Finally, any waste that's not wet, recyclable or harmful will go in the "dry waste" bin.

Many other Chinese cities are also using this method to sort their garbage. For example, Shenzhen has been sorting its garbage into the same four groups since 2012. Students there also receive waste-sorting guidebooks that they must study.

China is improving its waste sorting efforts. There is still a long way to go. But it's never too late to learn how to sort your trash properly and protect the environment.

If you don't sort your garbage, it will go to a landfill£¨À¬»øÌîÂñ³¡£©and be buried together. These landfills can take up large areas of ground that could have been used for planting trees or crops. The electronic waste you throw away, such as batteries, can pollute the soil and groundwater£¨µØÏÂË®£©. Other pieces of garbage, like the metal part of a pen, can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled.

¡¾1¡¿How should we deal with all kinds of garbage?

A.We can throw them all into one bin.B.We can sort them separately.

C.We can throw them away freely.D.We can reuse them all. .

¡¾2¡¿How is Shanghai encouraging people to sort their garbage?

A.Creating a "green account" service with the help of Alipay.

B.Paying people to sort their rubbish correctly.

C.Allowing people to exchange rubbish with each other.

D.Providing its residents with guidebooks to help them.

¡¾3¡¿Which of the following would be classified as wet waste?

A.Batteries.B.GlassesC.Leftover food.D.Medicine.

¡¾4¡¿What do we know about garbage sorting in China?

A.It started its garbage sorting system in 2012.

B.Students have to take waste sorting classes at school.

C.There is still a lot of work to be done in this area.

D.Burying garbage is common method of getting rid of garbage.
