    When Dave was 18， he bought an secondhand car for＄200 so that he could travel to work more than by bus. It worked quite well for years， but then it got so old， and it cost him much in repairs that he decided that he had better it.

    He asked all his friends to see if anyone wanted to buy a cheap car， but they all knew that it was falling to pieces， so of them wanted to buy it. Dave's friend Sam saw that he was worried one evening， and said， “What's ， Dave?”

    Dave told him， and Sam answered， “Well， what about advertising it in the paper? You may more for it that way than the cost of the advertisement!” Thinking that Sam's was right， he put an advertisement in an evening paper， which read “For sale： small car， very little oil， only two owners. Bargain (成交) at＄50.”

    For two days after the advertisement first appeared， there was no . But then on Saturday evening a man rang up and said he would like to see the car. Dave felt very happy. He asked the man whether ten o'clock the next morning would be or not. “Fine，” the man said， “and I'll my wife. We want to go for a ride in it to it.”

    A small, white envelope stuck among the branches of our Christmas tree and it has been there for the past ten years or so.

    It all began because my husband Justin hated Christmas—oh, not the true meaning of Christmas. Overspending was one thing, but compared to the difficult experience of choosing gifts—running around at the last minute to get a tie for Uncle Harry and a pair of gloves for Grandma…,spending money is nothing. I felt too tired to think of any special gifts.

    Knowing Justin felt the same way, I decided one year not to buy the usual shirts, sweaters, ties and so on. I reached for something special just for Justin. The inspiration came in an unusual way.

    Our son Kevin, who was 12 that year, was wrestling （摔跤）at the junior level at the school he attended; and shortly before Christmas, there was a match against a team sponsored (赞助) by an inner-city church. These youngsters, dressed in such worn-out shoes that shoe strings seemed to be the only thing holding them together, while our boys were in their blue and gold uniforms and new wrestling shoes.

    As the match began, I was shocked to see that the other team were wrestling without wearing helmets (头盔) to protect their ears. Well, our boys ended up defeating them. We took every weight class.

    Justin, seated beside me, shook his head sadly, “I wish just one of them could have won,” he said. “They have a lot potential (潜力) , but losing like this could take the heart out of them.” Justin loved kids—all kids, and he knew them, having coached little league football and baseball. That’s when the idea for his present came. That afternoon, I went to a local sporting goods store and bought different kinds of wrestling helmets and shoes. I sent them to inner-city church without leaving my name.

    On Christmas Eve, I placed the envelope on the tree, the note inside telling Justin what I had done and that was his gift from me. His smile was the brightest thing about Christmas that year and since then the envelope has become the highlight of our Christmas.

    In the village of Kila Raipur， people would like to take part in their unusual Olympics. Even though the villagers don’t spend millions of dollars on the sport， these games seem to be much more fun than the real Olympics!

    Now in its 77th year， the sport took place in the village Kila Raipur in an Indian state from January 31st to February 3rd. A villager by the name of Inder Singh Grewal wanted to organize an event which would allow farmers to show their skills， keep their culture and just have a good time.

    Over the years， it has become popular and now includes not just the farmers， but also some of the world’s finest athletes from 7 to 70 years of age. In keeping up with times， there are different modern sports， such as hockey and race and traditional ones such as tug-of-war and even Kabaddi.

    However， the ones that interest the biggest crowds are the special sports like the bull(公牛)races. In the races， bulls run at high speed against each other， with athletes balanced on small carts(手推车). Then there is the game that challenges athletes to lift bicycles with their teeth. Another sport is using their teeth to pull a car. If that is not special enough for you to get excited about this， there is a competition that allows a tractor(拖拉机) to run over an athlete’s body!

    All in all， the sport not only tests the skills and strength of its athletes， but also cheers up people. The best part is that everyone， old or young， can take part in the sport. So it’s no wonder that over 4，000 athletes and over a million watchers run into the small village of Kila Raipur， each year!
