Once upon a time there was no tea at all in England. People there used to drink a light beer. No coffee or milk but large glasses of beer stood on the breakfast table.
When tea was first brought to England, an old couple got some as a special treat. But they do not know how it should be used. They cooked the leaves in hot water, and spread them on a piece of bacon (熏肉) which they were going to have for dinner. They ate the leaves, and threw the tea away! However, tea is becoming as popular as coffee and milk in England today.
Tea is the leaf of a plant which grows widely in China, Japan and some other countries. Tea farmers usually grow many tea plants on a large piece of land. When the leaves are ready to be picked, it is the busiest time for tea farmers in a year. They pull off the leaves and dry them. In their spare time, they pick out the best leaves and get them ready for market. In China, whenever a visitor comes into house, he is served with a cup of tea.
1.Beer was served for breakfast in England long ago.
2.Tea was first brought to England by an old couple.
3.The old couple threw the tea leaves away and enjoyed tea.
4.Tea farmers are the busiest in a year when they pick and dry tea leaves.
5.Tea, coffee and milk are all popular in England today.

Dear Aunt Carla, I'm having a problem with my classmate, Joan, at school. The other day I wrote an email to another classmate, Beth, in which I said something about Joan that perhaps wasn't very nice. Unluckily, when Beth was writing back to me, she sent it to Joan@163.com, which is Joan's email address! Now Joan is really angry with me and won't talk to me, and Beth is unhappy as well. She has said sorry to me a hundred times already, but the harm is done. I feel bad, because I would never have said those things to Joan's face, but how do I get her to forgive me? What should I do? Subject: Some advice | Date: 16/08/2019 8:30 AM |
Dear Steve, This problem is more common than you might think! Email is very useful, but also very dangerous, as you don't know where your message might end up! First of all, you should say sorry right away to Joan. Explain that it was a mistake, and that you didn't mean to hurt her feelings. It may take time for her to be able to forgive you, but that's up to her. Then you might want to do something nice for her. Perhaps send her some flowers to show that you're truly sorry. Also, you should remember that old saying: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." And good luck! Carla |

A.Steve@163.com B.Joan@163.com C.Beth@yahoo.com D.Carla@yahoo.com

We see logos on signs, buildings, television, and even on the clothes we wear. Logos are used to stand for brands (品牌). There are logos such as the Nike "swoosh", the Apple logo and the colorful rings of the Olympic Games. All of these logos are designed to attract our attention. They also help us remember a product or service connected to the logo. However, research performed at the University of California, Los Angeles finds that remembering the details of logos is very difficult. The researchers try to explain this.
Logos are typically designed to be simple and easy to recognize. Yet the frequent exposure (频繁接触) to these logos can actually make our brains overlook the details of logos. It would be challenging to try to remember every single thing that crosses our path. We take in so much information every day that the brain works to notice information that does not need to be stored. It allows the unimportant information to disappear gradually from our memory.
The details of product logos are just the kind of information our brains tell us we do not need. This may be discouraging to logo designers and to companies that use these eye-catching logos. But there are still many business experts who believe in the importance of a recognizable logo.
Even though the brain is likely to pay no attention to unnecessary details, it is also programmed for recognition. When we see logos over and over again, we become familiar (熟悉) with them. This repeated exposure leads our brains to remember the basic idea without all of the details. This general sense of memory has its own benefits. It can make us feel like we really know the product behind the logo. In fact, familiarity with a logo can even make people feel more comfortable about buying or using certain products.
Logos are everywhere we look today. Those people who create logos need to know that people will only remember what they believe is important. A clever design may be interesting, but most people will forget the details.
