Asking the girl's father for permission
In Eastern Europe, the engagement(订婚) is an event that happens before a wedding.
One month before the wedding, the groom (新郎) should ask the girl's father for permission to take the girl out of her family. He goes to her house early in the morning with a band, and all the neighbours come to see the new bride(新娘) and to say nice things to her.
