The best-loved pig in Hong Kong is called McDull. His mom makes a wish that he will look like Chow Yun-fat or Tony Leung, but he is well-known only by a birthmark around his right eye.

Everything he tries, he fails. He wants to be an Olympic champion of qiangbaoshan (抢包山), but the sport of catching the hottest baozi from a small mountain doesn’t really exist (存在), of course. He dreams of going to the Maldives, but ends up on only a one-day tour of a Hong Kong landmark.

1.____________ McDull was at first a supporting character i a story about his cousin McMug, a smart baby pig and “what parents expect of their children.” But interestingly, the wooden-healed McDull gradually became more attractive when he told his classmates that if he became the class monitor, he would treat everyone with strawberry cakes. McDull tried to speak out one sentence i his speech, “If you choose me, you will be...painful.” For him, it looks only a little bit different from an “A” when he gets an “E”. 2.____________

3._____________ In one of the McDull movies, he talks to the audience (观众), “I suddenly realize that there is something you cannot have. No noodles, no Maldives, no golden medal, no money... Actually, being silly is not funny---it could mean failure (失败). Being fat is not funny. Being fat does not even mean you are stronger. Disappointment is not funny, either. When I grow up, and face the strict world that isn’t funny, what should I do?” He is still happy, however. He always starts again with a new dream when one fails him.

4._____________ The popularity of McDull sometimes makes his creator Alice Mark confused, who hs some simple thoughts, such as God creates humans, because he loves humans and he wants them to be happy. “maybe people see themselves and their friends in McDull. McDull makes people realize that they used to be as simple and happy as him. If there is a theme in all the McDull movies, it is about how a simple person keeps his or her simplicity in a world full of problems. 5._______________” says Alice Mark.

A. The cartoon pig is not smart, either.

B. That’s why both children and adults find McDull cute.

C. However, the slow, silly pig has won over Hong Kong people.

D. According to his headmaster, McDull isn’t that silly. He’s just too kind.

E. The story is more than its funny points. It is pleasant and sour at the same time.

F. What he has been doing in the moveis is to find new dreams, but most of them end up in disappointment.

On my first holiday in America, I went to a large supermarket to buy breakfast. And although this was an English-speaking country that I knew well through films and TV, I was amazed. Everything came in unfamiliar (不熟悉的) packaging (包装),with things I'd never heard of, Even things as simple as corn chips were strange, in different colours including black and purple.

Tilse, who works for Nutrition Australia, first realized there was a problem six years ago. After teachers at her children's school quietly shared their opinions about the diets, she knew something about it. "They cared for what many children were bringing to school for lunch," she said. "Mostly packaged foods, such as chips are not healthy."

Tilse said, “They've managed to escape war areas and get to Australia, only to face the very real risk of running into heart disease. All because they're making wrong choices about food."

"Before I came to Australia, I'd never seen a sandwich," said Joseline Ntunzusenimanima, a 33-year-old mother of seven from Burundi in East Africa. "There were so many fruits I had either never seen or not been able to buy for many years. I was in shock for the first four days after I arrived.  I hate being overweight. My husband said he didn’t mind, but I knew he still hoped I had a beautiful body. Everything from my waist(腰部) to my legs was overweight. Finally, just after Christmas last year, I decided that something had to be done.

I met Dr. Wallace, and she told me I had to stop eating fast foods. It was very hard for me because I was eating them three of four times a week:pizza, hamburgers, whatever I could get. But I said to myself at the start that I would try my best to do it-and I did. I even gave up the booze-something I used to have two glasses of it with dinner.

My best friend, Rachel Waterman, said I had to walk 10,000 steps every day. That was very hard for me at the beginning. I was used to driving everywhere, but I started to walk everywhere instead. I walked in the morning before work, and I usually took a walk in the park with my husband after work. Now I never go to bed until I’ve done my 10,000 steps.

Six months has passed, and I made it. Last week, my husband bought me an MP4 as a gift.  the weight is wonderful-I feel like a different person now, and I can buy my favorite clothes in the shops. I am so proud of myself because everyone thought I wouldn’t be able to make it including myself.

I love my new body, and I’ll never let myself go back into my old ways.

  1. When did the woman decide to lose her weight?

  A. After she had a baby.     B. After Christmas last year.

  C. Before Christmas last year. D. When she got a gift from her husband.

  2. The underlined word “booze” in Paragraph 2 means ________.

  A. wine  B. meat  C. vegetables D. fast foods

  3. What can make the woman overweight according to this passage?

  A. Pizza, vegetables and wine.  B. Pizza, hamburgers and wine.

  C. Pizza, vegetables and water  .D. Pizza, hamburgers and tea.

  4. Why did the woman’s husband get an MP4 for her?

A. Because it was Dr. Wallace’s suggestion.

B. Because her husband liked it.

C. Because it was a gift for her success in losing weight.

D. Because she asked her husband for it several times.
