As we all know, all living things will die without oxygen(氧气). Oxygen comes from all kinds of plants. Rainforests play the most important part in making oxygen. Besides(除了) making oxygen, rainforests help us in many other ways.
Rainforests take in the heat(热量) from the sun and this makes the earth cooler. Because the more heat reflects(反射) into the sky, the warmer the other parts of the world will be. That’s the reason why rainforests can control the climate.
Rainforests provide us with a lot of wood. We use wood to make paper and furniture, such as beds, chairs and tables. Also we use wood for building houses to protect us from the sun, the wind and the rain. In most parts of the world, people cook food and keep warm by burning wood.
Rainforests are the world’s drug(药物) store. More than 25% of the medicine we use today come from plants in rainforests. However, fewer than 1% of rainforest plants have been checked for their medical value(药用价值). We believe that our best chance to beat diseases is somewhere in the world’s rainforests. But it’s a pity they are becoming smaller and smaller day by day. I think we should try our best to protect it.

Choose the best answer(根据短文内容,选择最恰当的答案)
Unless we spend money to spot(认出,发现) and prevent asteroids(小行星)now, one might crash into Earth and destroy life as we know it, say some scientists.
Asteroids are bigger versions of the meteoroids(流星体) that race across the night sky. Most orbit the sun far from Earth and don’t threaten us. But there are also thousands of asteroids whose orbits put them on a collision course with Earth.
Buy $500 million worth of new telescopes right now, they spend $10 million a year for the next 25 years to locate most of the space rocks. By the time we spot a fatal one, the scientists say, we’ll have a way to change its course.
Is it worth it? Two things experts consider when judging any risk are: (1) How likely the event is; (2) How bad the consequences if the event occurs. Experts think an asteroid big enough to destroy lots of life might strike Earth once every 500,000 years. Sounds pretty rare but if one did fall. It would be the end of the world. “If we don’t take care of these big asteroids, they’ll take care of us,” says one scientist. “It’s that simple. ”
The cure, though, might be worse than the disease. Do we really want fleets(队,车队) of nuclear weapons sitting around on Earth? “The world has less fear from doomsday rocks than from a great nuclear fleet set against them.” said a New York Times article.
1.What does the passage say about asteroids and meteoroids?
A.They are heavenly bodies different in composition. B.They are heavenly bodies similar in nature.
C.There are more asteroids than meteoroids. D.Asteroids are more mysterious than meteoroids.
2.What do scientists say about the collision, of an asteroid with Earth?
A.It is very unlikely but the danger exists.
B.Such a collision might occur once every 25 years.
C.Collisions of smaller asteroids with Earth occur more often than expected.
D.It’s still too early to say whether such a collision might occur.
3.What do people think of the suggestion of using nuclear weapons to alter the course of asteroids?
A.It sounds practical but it may not solve the problem.
B.It may create more problems than it might solve.
C.It is a waste of money because a collision of asteroids with Earth is very unlikely.
D.Further research should be done before it is proved applicable.
4.We can conclude from the passage that
A.while pushing asteroids off course nuclear weapons would destroy the world.
B.asteroids racing across the night sky are likely to hit Earth in the near future.
C.the worry about asteroids can be left to future generations since it is unlikely to happen in our lifetime.
D.workable solutions still have to be found to prevent a collision of asteroids with Earth.
5.Which of the following best describes the author’s tone in this passage?
A.Optimistic. B.Critical. C.Objective. D.Arbitrary(武断的)
6.The best title for the passage is __________.
A.How will the world end? B.Asteroids and meteoroids in the sky.
C.Nuclear weapons on Earth. D.What if asteroids crash into Earth?

Science and technology can be seen everywhere. They are making our life more convenient(方便的) and comfortable. Some scientists recently added amazing ideas to four common things and made great changes to them.
It’s not just a phone. China has taken the leading place in several scientific fields. In February, 2019, Huawei introduced Mate X, the first 5G phone that can be folded(折叠) in the world. It allows users to read e-books or watch movies on a larger screen. The Mate X supports(支持) 5G. It means you can get a movie from the Internet about 100 times faster than using 4G. |
They are not just chopsticks. Scientists at an American university have invented a pair of electronic chopsticks that can change the taste of food. When you put the chopsticks in your mouth, they can make you feel the taste becomes better, such as making sweet food taste sweeter or salty food less salty. Soon the scientists are going to try their technology on bottles, cups and spoons(勺子). |
It’s not just a sticker(粘贴). It’s said that about 52% of the fruits of the earth go bad before reaching the buyers. Scientists from Malaysia(马来西亚) thought of a simple way to solve the problem — tiny stickers that are made out of some natural materials(材料). Put the stickers on fruits, and the fruits can keep fresh up to two weeks. |
They are not just shoes. Every step you take is helping cut down air pollution. This is not in science fiction(科幻小说). A team from Europe has invented such a pair of shoes. The shoes can take in dirty air and send out clean air. If you wear the shoes and walk one kilometer, the shoes can clean the air polluted by eight cars. |
1.The first 5G phone that can be folded in the world is from ________.
A.China B.Germany C.Malaysia D.America
2.If you think your food is too salty, you can use the ________ mentioned in the passage.
A.spoons B.cups C.chopsticks D.bottles
3.The tiny stickers made by Malaysian scientists can keep fruits fresh up to ________.
A.2 weeks B.4 weeks C.5 weeks D.8 weeks
4.In the passage, the shoes invented by the team from Europe can ________.
A.send out dirty air B.take in dirty air
C.wash our feet D.make noise pollution
5.The passage is mainly about ________.
A.the changes of mobile phones B.the importance of living a healthy life
C.the way to keep fruits fresh for a longer time D.the development of science and technology
