Anyone who has experienced a cyclone (ì«·ç) will tell you how terrible it can be. Highs winds and lots of rain can destroy a city in less then an hour.
A big cyclone, named Cyclone Debbie, hit Australia¡¯s east coast at the end of March. Winds as fast as 263km/h destroyed houses, trees, cars and boats. Sea levels rose and flooded coastal towns, while rivers also flooded. Many cities near rivers went underwater. Hundreds of thousands of people had to leave their homes and farms, and at least eight people died. The cyclone lasted for about three days, but the flooding is still happening two weeks later. Some cities never recover from a cyclone, while it takes others years to rebuild.
A tropical cyclone (ÈÈ´øÆøÐý) begins when a group of thunderstorms meet over warm, tropical waters. Lots of air and water is sucked into the clouds from the ocean. Because Earth is rotating(Ðýת), the clouds start to spiral(ÅÌÐýÉÏÉý). That is why the tropical cyclone has a curved(ÍäÇúµÄ) shape when you see it on a map. For this reason, tropical cyclones cannot form near the Equator(³àµÀ) because Earth¡¯s rotation isn¡¯t big enough there. When the wind speed increases to 120 km/h, it changes from a tropical cyclone to a hurricane, typhoon(̨·ç)or cyclone.
So what¡¯s the difference between a cyclone, a hurricane, and a typhoon? The answer is actually quite simple.
All three are the same. We just use different names for these storms in different places. In the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific Oceans around the US, it is called hurricane. The same type of storm in the North Pacific near China is called a typhoon and cyclones form in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean near Australia.
1.Which of the following about Cyclone Debbie is NOT true?
A. It hit Australia¡¯s east coast in March.
B. The wind speed reached 263 km/h.
C. It caused a huge loss for coastal towns.
D. The flooding stopped after three days.
2.How does a tropical cyclone happen?
A. When a group of thunderstorms meet warm, tropical waters.
B. When the water in the ocean flows in a curved shape.
C. When a group of thunderstorms meet near an Equator.
D. When the wind speed reaches over 120 km/h
3.How can we tell the difference between a cyclone, a hurricane, and a typhoon?
A. From the time it takes place. B. From where it takes place.
C. From how it takes place. D. From how many people it kills
4.Which can be the best title for the passage£¿

Four years ago, Chinese skater Wu Dajing introduced himself to the skating world by winning a silver medal at the Sochi Olympic Winter Games. At this year¡¯s Pyeong Chang Olympics, Wu not only returned, but also made history.
On Feb 22th, 2018, Wu won the gold medal in the men¡¯s short-track 500-meter race. He set a new world record with a
time of 39.584 seconds. He also became the first Chinese man to take home an Olympic short-track gold medal. BBC said Wu¡¯s win was ¡°flawless¡±, because he was much faster than all of the other skaters.
¡°I didn¡¯t give them a chance and I kept my speed from the start,¡± he told the reporter after the match.
But China¡¯s short-track teams didn¡¯t do well in general at the Games. Chinese skaters in the women¡¯s 500 meters, 3000-meter relay and men¡¯s 1500 meters all failed to take home the gold. Wu was China¡¯s biggest hope, which put a lot of pressure on him. But he proved himself with his great performance.
Wu is now known as a highly talented skater. But things were not always that way. When Wu joined the national team in 2010, he was seen as almost ¡°nothing¡± compared to gifted skaters like Zhou Yang and Fan Kexin, as his coaches said at the time. Their words made him quite upset. But Wu didn¡¯t want to give up and worked as hard as he could. He practiced skating all year round. He even didn¡¯t return to his hometown for the holidays for 10 years. ¡°I believe in myself,¡± he told the reporter after his match at the Olympics.
