The British summer is beautiful. Trees, flowers, birds and butterflies make the whole country look like a big garden. However, many British people have noticed that butterflies have been gradually disappearing from this nice scenery during the past several years. What has happened to them?

Butterfly Conservation, a charity in the UK, is running a survey to help answer this question. The result is more serious than people expected. According to the survey, among 59 butterfly species (物种) found in the British Isles, more than three-quarters of them are suffering a declining (衰弱) population, including the most popular Meadow Brown. Moreover, half of all butterfly species are dying out.

Some common species such as the small Tortoiseshell butterfly and the Wall butterfly are dropping sharply. The Wall butterfly cannot even be seen in many parts of central and southern England. And the Blue butterfly, which was commonly seen in the south, has started settling in Edinburgh in the past few years.

The numbers of butterflies have dropped to a record low in the past three years because the summer in the UK is getting cooler and their living conditions are also degrading.

Luckily, Britain is experiencing a long hot summer this year compared to the last few summers. Scientists believe the warm weather will be good news to the butterflies.

Sir David Attenborough, president of Butterfly Conservation, said, “A great number of butterflies around us is a signal that all is well with nature. But when they decline, it’s a warning that other wildlife will be soon heading the same way.”

The survey is still going on. The public is also encouraged to focus on the UK’s butterfly population. The organizers hope the survey will help more and more people realize the value of butterflies in the UK. Butterflies give a symbol of the well-being of nature and the environment.

1.What has the survey taken by Butterfly Conservation found?

Sarah stood in front of the mirror(镜子). “It looks like a raincoat on me,” she said.

“Perhaps the blue,” said Mama, gently.

“Sure,” the shopkeeper said. But when she took the blue coat, there on the shelf behind all of the dark coats, hidden like a spring flower in winter darkness, there, as if by magic, was a pink coat.

“A pink coat!” Sarah cried. “I want the pink coat.”

“That coat is smaller than the other ones,” Papa said.

Sarah spoke up. “I’m small, too. Papa, please let me try it on, Mama? Please?”

“It wouldn’t hurt to let her try it on,” Mama said.

Without a word, the shopkeeper took the coat from the shelf and held it for Sarah.

“Ohhh!” Sarah said. The coat was smooth and shiny inside like her sister Sylvia’s blouses. “Ahhh!”

Sarah stood very straight and looked in the mirror. She looked for a very long time. In the pink coat she looked like a spring flower.

“Sarah!” Mama said.

Sarah looked up. Mama was standing behind her. She was holding the brown coat.

“I’m afraid the pink coat will only fit one year,” Mama said, taking a step closer.

“And there’s no one to pass it on to,” said Papa.

And the shopkeeper said, “It’s wise to save money.”

Sarah backed away. No one was going to put her into a raincoat again. She wanted to be a flower.

“Sarah!” It was Papa. He came over to her. “You’re old enough to know that you can’t always have your own way,” he said seriously.

“Wise and true,” said the shopkeeper.

Sarah took off the pink coat, slowly.

“It is her colour, though,” Mama said.

“Ahh,” said the shopkeeper. “Anyone can see how the pink of the coat brings out the roses in her face.”

Papa looked thoughtful for a moment.

“We are lucky.” continued Mama, “that it is only one little coat for Sarah and not also new coats for Sylvia and Susan and Sally.”

Papa looked from the brown coat to the pink coat. “The cows will give milk soon enough,” he said “And how can we let Sarah wear a brown coat when she looks like a flower in this one?”

“Papa!” Sarah cried, putting on the pink coat back, quickly. She threw her arms around Papa’s neck. “ 33 ” she whispered.

“Like a rose in spring,” Papa said.

1.What did Sarah try on first?

A. A big pink coat. B. A small pink coat. C. A big brown coat. D. A small brown coat.

2.Why did Mama want Sarah to try brown and blue?

A. Because Sarah looked better in them. B. Because Sarah could wear them longer.

C. Because they were big enough for Sarah. D. Because they cost less than the pink one.

3.What did Sarah most probably say to Papa in the end?

A. How do I look? B. How does the coat look?

C. I do look like a flower, don’t I? D. The coat looks nice, doesn’t it?

When I was in the sixth grade, I became a big K-pop (Korean pop) fan. Almost half the students at my middle school were Korean and almost all of them listened to Korean music, especially K-pop. I had never been interested in it. It sounded too strange to me, but all changed in the sixth grade when the huge hit Gee came out. All my friends were singing the chorus and imitating the dance. Gee fever sucked me into K-pop. It became my life. I listened to K-pop non-stop and filled my iPod with it. In a month, I had memorized the names of countless members of boy and girl bands and stuck pictures of my singer "boyfriends" on my walls. I would ditch my weekend art and math classes and go to concerts with my friends. This would always result in my mom shouting that I was wasting my life. My mom thought K-pop was trash and wanted me to like classical music as she did. But classical music made me sleepy.

Every day during middle school I went to a K-pop gossip and news site called allkpop.com. On this site I learned that I could audition(试音) to become a singer in a K-pop band. The shining clothes, thousands of screaming fans and hearing them chant my name seemed much more exciting than being a middle school student. Becoming a K-pop star was all I wanted.

I started watching the audition videos of current stars and reading blog posts from people who had auditioned. They explained much about the audition. This made me want to audition even more. After watching those videos, I saw that most of the current stars weren’t that amazing in their auditions and that each singer had improved so much through training. I had never had vocal lessons(声乐课) and didn’t think of myself as a good singer. “But if they could do it, I could do that too,” I thought.

1.What caused the author to fall in love with K-pop?

A. Her Korean origin. B. A new style of dance.

C. Her friends’ influence. D. The popularity of Gee.

2.The underlined word "ditch" in Paragraph 1 probably means "________".

A. forget B. attend C. ignore D. hate

3.What do we know about the author’s mother?

A. She has no interest in music. B. She has a low opinion of K-pop.

C. She doesn’t care about her daughter. D. She prefers K-pop to classical music.

4.After visiting allkpop.com, the author ________.

A. dreamed of becoming a pop singer B. called the manager of the news site

C. contacted people who had auditioned D. knew she would never become a singer

1.D 2.C 3.B 4.A 【解析】文章大意:本文属于记叙文阅读,作者通过这篇文章主要向我们描述了作者同他喜欢的 K-pop音乐的故事。 1.细节理解题。根据文章中的"I had never been interested in it. It sounded too strange to me, but all changed in the sixth grade...
