In 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, only white people were ¡¾1¡¿ to sit in the first four rows of public buses. African-American people had to use the seats towards the ¡¾2¡¿ of the bus.
If someone ¡¾3¡¿ was African-American sat in the white part, he or she would be asked to move.
One day, an African-American named Rosa Parks was ¡¾4¡¿ in a ¡°whites only¡± part of the bus.
The bus was ¡¾5¡¿ and some white people needed a seat, so the driver asked Rosa Parks to give ¡¾6¡¿ her seat.
But she refused. She was ¡¾7¡¿ after a long day working in a store and she felt she should have the right to sit ¡¾8¡¿ she wanted, so she told the driver ¡°no¡±.
For that, she was arrested (´þ²¶). She was tried for just 30 minutes and fined (·£¿î) $10¡ªa lot of money in those days.
She also ¡¾9¡¿ her job because of that.
Today, in the United States, December 1 is a ¡¾10¡¿ called Rosa Parks Day. Rosa Parks is celebrated for her action and bravery.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ If a friend helps us, it¡¯s a good idea to write him a thank-you note. But in fact, how many of us sit down to do this? ¡°People don¡¯ t seem to walk around giving thanks to people quite often,¡± Professor Kumar said. Why don¡¯t people like to send thank-you notes? And how do people feel when they get one?
Kumar and his team asked some students to write a thank-you note to another person by email. Then, they asked both the writer and the receiver how sending or getting these notes made them feel. Here is the result.
They found that these writers didn¡¯t like to write the notes because they felt like they had to think too much about them. They worried about what to say and how to say it. The receivers, however felt enjoyable when they got the notes. When you are a receiver, you really care about the warmth of the note, ¡°Kumar says. ¡°How friendly and warm was it?¡±
Also, the writers didn¡¯t like to write the notes because they thought it might be awkward (ÞÏÞεÄ) for the receiver to get a thank-you note. But in fact, it¡¯s not true. ¡°They feel quite happy,¡± Kumar says. ¡°They don¡¯t really feel awkward at all.¡± If people knew that writing a thank-you note could be so important to others, they would do it more often, Kumar says.
In a word, simple and small changes in our everyday lives can make a big difference in how we treat (¶Ô´ý) other people and how we feel.
