On April 23,the United Nations published the World Happiness Report 2015. Switzerland ranks 1st among 158 nations,followed by Iceland,Denmark,Norway and Canada. The US and China rank 15th and 84th respectively on the list. Western European countries take seven positions out of the top 10 ,while Afghanistan,Syria and eight African countries make the bottom 10.Among them,West African country Togo is the least happy.

    The research is based on six measures. The first two are the GDP per capita and the citizens’ healthy lifetime. On average,Swiss people make $ 84,748 ( 525,821 yuan ) a year and live 82 years. While for Togo,the numbers are $ 636 and 58 years.

    Out of the statistics (统计数据) ，happiness is also showed by people's feelings,behaviors and everyday lives. Therefore,the measures of this research also include questions that are close to one's daily life. For example,M Do you feel free to choose what you do with your life?"”’ Do you have relatives or friends you can count on to help you whenever you need them?" , " Have you donated money to a charity in the past month?" and " Is corruption (贪污廣败) widespread?" People in Switzerland speak highly of their nation in all these aspects.

    " This report gives evidence (证据) on how to achieve societal well-being. It's not by money alone,but also by fairness,honesty,trust,and good health,n said Jeffrey Sachs,one of the editors of the report. Happiness is important for a nation's progress and should be a key aim of public policy,says the report.
