Tea bag drinking is most Westerners' favorite way of drinking tea. Do you know how it came about?
The tea bag was invented in 1908 by Thomas Sullivan, an American tea seller. He was sending out free tea in silk bags for people to try. People put the bags together with the tea leaves into the cup and added(增加) hot water. The tea tasted good, and people thought it was easy to clean the cup. They were not happy when Sullivan started sending them loose (散的) tea again.

In 1952, Lipton Tea made the tea bag even more popular with its invention of the four-sided tea bag. Tea bags were soon a hit in the UK, and today 85%of the tea in the UK is packed in paper bags.
However, many people still prefer loose-leaf tea.  This is because some tea companies put not very good tea in their tea bags. But for most drinkers, tea bags are still the easy and tasly way to go.

British people are famous for drinking tea. But both Sahar and Bobby Green became young millionaires(百万富翁) when they opened a chain of American-style(美国风味的) coffee shops in the U.K.
Having the idea:It started when Sahar took a weekend trip to New York to visit her brother Bobby. One evening , in a Thai restaurant,Sahar told Bobby how much she wished she could buy American-style coffee  in London . Bobby suggested  they start their own coffee shop. Sahar fell in love with the idea.
Doing the Research: Back in London, she spent a whole day on the London subway, getting off the train at different stations to taste the coffee. “It was terrible, and I know there was a gap (缺口) in the market.” In November 1995, they opened their first Coffee Republic shop in central London.
Making it work:The first year was very difficult. There were problems finding and keeping staff, and British people were not used to the names of American coffees, like Latte and Macchiato. But being successful was their dream and they were not going to give up . Today , there are over 100 Coffee Republic shops all over the country and the company has revenues(收入) of $30 million a year.
Advice for others: Sahar has now written a best-selling book about their experience, called Anyone Can Do It! She hopes it will help other young people to start their own businesses. She believes success is 1% idea and 99% hard work, but she says, “If you think you have the energy, then get out and follow your dream.”

     Which country grows the most tea? The answer is India.  It grows three times as much as China. Which country drinks the most tea? It's neither China nor Japan. It's Great Britain.
     In the wild, tea plants may be 30 feet tall. But a plant grown for market is pruned(修剪).Pruning keeps the plant only three or four feet tall. This is an easy height for tea picking. Only the two top leaves of each
new shoot(芽)are picked. So to make money, tea plantations must be huge.
     In general, there are two kinds of tea, black tea and green tea. They are made in different ways. When black tea is made, it loses nearly all of its healthy qualities.  But green tea retains its healthy qualities. For
instance, it may prevent heart disease(病).
     How did we get tea bags? The answer: by accident. People used to send tea in tin boxes.  This was
expensive. Someone thought of a cheaper way. He sent tea in small silk bags. Customers would open the bag. They would put the leaves into a pot as usual. One customer put the bag into a pot. Then he just
poured hot water over it. And the tea bag was born.
     Shen Nong was the first to drink tea. This was about 2737 B.C.Shen was ill, so he drank several cups of hot water daily. One day something happened.  Leaves from a wild tea tree fell into the hot water pot.
The next cup was poured. The water was now colored. Shen tasted it.  He liked it.  He drank it all. Shen was proud of his new drink. He served it to his guests. World spread. People thought this way. Tea is
good enough for the emperor. So it must be good enough for the people. Tea became the drink of China.
