On Sunday, April 22, people all over the world take time out to appreciate(珍惜)the earth that we all share. It’s Earth Day, a special day to learn about our planet(星球)and how to take care of it.
On Earth Day, some people listen to speeches about the environment. Others help clean up their offices or save water and electricity at home. Your parents may even decide to take a day off from driving their cars．
The idea for Earth Day came from a US Senator(参议员), who was worried about pollution and the health of plants and animals. And the idea quickly caught on(流行起来). In 1970, the first Earth Day was celebrated. More than 20 million people in cities all over the US took part in. Since then, Earth Day has been used to educate people about their role in taking care of our planet.
Now, Earth Day has become a global celebration. In 1990, 200 million people from 140 countries took part in clean-ups, tree planting and other environmental events on Earth Day.

If you are in a traffic accident
If a car hurts you, you should. remember the car number. If it is a bicycle, try to call your parents before you let the rider go. This is because you don't know how seriously you are hurt.
If it is raining hard and there is lightning
Don't stay in high places and stay away from trees.
When there is a fire
Get away as fast as you can. Put wet things on your body and try to find an exit. Do not take the lift.
If someone is drowning
If you can't swim, don't get into the water. Cry out for help.
Remember that danger is never as far away as you think. Take care of yourself at all times!
If you are robbed (抢劫)
Keep calm. If you cannot cry for help or run away, give the robber your money. Try to remember what the robber looks like and tell the police later.

It's Really a Miracle(奇迹)
Mr. Clarke works in New York and brought his family to China. They visited many places of interest and had a good time here. Before they left for Shanghai, the Clarkes climbed up the Great Wall. It was the greatest project about three thousand years ago. They took a lot of photos there and then they had a picnic under a big tree. Suddenly it began to rain and they hurried to the car. And when they returned to the hotel, they couldn't find the bag in which their expensive camera was. They were all sorry for it. They could buy another camera but had no time to go to the Great Wall again. They could not miss the plane!
That evening they didn't have supper. Mr. Clarke hoped to make them happy and said, “Well. Let me tell you a story. An old man lived in a sixty-storey building. One day he fell down from it when he was cleaning the window. But he didn't hurt himself. ”
“It was a miracle!” called out his children. “Why?”
“Because he lived on the first floor!”
They all began to laugh while two policemen with a bag came in. They said a Chinese boy found it under the big tree and he asked them to find out who lost it.“It's really a miracle!” the Clarkes said happily.
