Two tourists lost their way on Lingshan Mountain on the border of Beijing and Hebei on December 22. The temperature on the mountain was — 25°C that night and there were strong winds. When they were found at least 18 hours later,they had lost their lives.

Some other countries also suffered from extremely cold weather. InRussia,more than 120 people died because of the winter cold,Dragon TV reported.

Scientists say that the cold started in the Arctic (北极) .The sea ice there has been melting (融化) because of global warming.

This changes how the air moves. "Some areas of the ocean act like a heater as the water is warmer than the Arctic air above it. ” said Professor Stefan.

At the same time,melting ice means more water. This means more water vapor (水蒸气) in the air,which means more snow.
