Dear Lucy,
I learn from your letter that you are very interested in the story of Cao Chong weighed the elephant. Let me tell you£º
Once somebody sent Cao Chong's father, Cao Cao ,an elephant and he wanted to know its weight, but there was nothing big enough to weigh it£®Cao Chong told his father he could weigh the elephant if he had a big boat and a lot of heavy stones£®Cao Cao was very surprised, but he still ordered his men to get everything ready£®When they led the elephant down into the boat, the water came up,then Cao Chong marked the water line£®Then they drove the elephant onto the bank and put the heavy stones in the boat until the water came up to the same line£®At last, Cao Chong told the men to weigh the stones£®In this way, he weighed the elephant.
I think Cao Chong is very clever. If we think hard before doing things, we can do them better.
Yours
Thought

Thirty years ago, few Chinese knew about American TV series, though during the 1980s and 1990s, Chinese people got the chance to watch some U.S.A. TV series like Growing Pains.
Now,¡¾1¡¿,Chinese people have more chances to enjoy foreign TV series. Some American TV series such as¡¾2¡¿have become very popular among young Chinese English learners. In their opinion, watching American TV series is a good way to learn English and American culture. They have other reasons to support that point of view.
Fist, it¡¯s easy and convenient for learners to manage their learning time. They don¡¯t have to worry about the place and time to learn.¡¾3¡¿,they can start watching and learning. All they need to do is to turn on their computers and put on their earphones.
The stories in the TV series also play an important role in attracting more learners. Different cultures between China and the Western countries and exciting story lines get young people interested in watching and learning¡¾4¡¿.
Besides, watching American TV series can help learners improve their listening and speaking skills. English learners may find it hard to find a native speaker to talk with,¡¾5¡¿, they can listen to native speakers and follow their conversations as much as they can.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿¡¾2013Äê½ËÕÑγǡ¿Every year many young people leave school for a few weeks or months and enjoy an unusual type of educational program. They learn new skills by living in a different country and doing unusual jobs. There are several organizations. They help students to find the experience they are looking for. The table below shows a few possibilities for students.
One interesting possibility is helping elephants in Thailand. Most people think o elephants as animals in zoos. In fact, many elephants in Thailand are no longer kept in cages. Now, hundreds of them are homeless. They don¡¯t have owners to care for them. Although they may look well, they are often in poor health and don¡¯t have enough to eat.
One centre in Thailand cares for these elephants. It gives them a safe and natural living space. When they are at the centre, they stay in a building but are free to walk around. Students come from all over the world to help here. The student helpers work with the elephant keepers. These keepers train the students in caring for the elephants. In the morning, they go to the forest together and lead the elephants to the centre. They clean them and give them food. In the afternoon, they take the animals back into the forest for the night. Helping at the center is interesting and the young people learn a lot.
