    Based on Jiang Rong's novel of the same name，the movie is about Chen Zhen （Feng Shaofeng） and Yang Ke （Shawn Dou） being sent from Beijing to Inner Mongolia in the 1960s to live with a nomadic tribe （游牧部落）．They are among the 17million urban middle school graduates in the"cultural revolution"（1966-76），who answered Chairman Mao's call to go to work and live with local villagers in poor provinces．After saving the life of a baby wolf，Chen becomes captivated （迷住） by the ferocious （凶猛的），quick and intelligent animal．
    French filmmaker Jean-Jacques Annaud has showed that he knows how to create a movie about wild animals．While watching a pack of wolves make a surprise attack （袭击） on gazelles （小羚羊） from a hidden position，I held my breath just like Chen and local leader Bilig．And during a night snowstorm，as the wolves ran after a group of horses，I could feel the main character's desperation （绝望） rising from my throat．
    British animal trainer Andrew Simpson spent three years raising and training a group of wolves for this movie，watching them grow from babies to adults．During the shooting of the movie，Feng Shaofeng would play with the wolves，feed them and clean their homes．This helped Feng develop a deeper understanding of wolves．He told us，"Wolves can treat you as friends，but never as owners．"
