The first walk into outer space was taken by a Soviet astronaut. Astronaut Zhai Zhigang became the first
Chinese to walk in space on September 27,2008. It showed that it was quite safe for a man to be outside the
spaceship for a certain period of time. But to walk in space, astronauts have to meet with many kinds of
difficulties and dangers.
The spaceship goes round the earth at an altitude (º£°Î¸ß¶È) of about 200 kilometers above its surface. At
such altitudes there is no atmosphere which prtects the life on the earth. The conditions of outer space are very
harmful to man.
The boiling point of liquids (ÒºÌå) goes down with pressure. But pressure outside the spaceship is nearly
zero. In such conditions the decompression (¼õѹ) of the spacesuit may cause the boiling of the blood and quick
death. There is radiation from space and it is harmful.
Breathing problems in space can be solved with the help of the spacesuit. Another problem is heat. Man gives
off heat in the course (¹ý³Ì) of his activity, and the harder the labor (ÀͶ¯) is, the greater the amount (×ÜÁ¿) of
heat is. In space unless special measures are taken, the heat inside the spacesuit would make the conditions
difficult.

Why does the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy lean? It leans because of a mistake. It has leaned almost
since the day the tower was built
. (1) In 1174, the people of Pisa, Italy wanted to build a bell tower.
They wanted the tower to be the most beautiful bell tower in Italy. The city also needed a bell tower
because the church did not have one.
As soon as the first floor of the building was finished, the tower started to lean. Builders tried to make
the building straight by adding more floors, but the Leaning Tower only got worse as the tower grew
180,years, it, took, to, almost, the, tower, finish (2) Like all old buildings, it is also falling apart.  If
someone cannot figure out a way to save the tower, the Leaning Tower of Pisa will fall down in less than
 200 years.

One of China's most famous art forms is the 200-year-old Jingxi (Beijing Opera). It is not only a
treasure (²Æ¸») of the Chinese nation but also a cultural symbol of China. Beijing Opera is an art on stage
that includes singing, dancing, acting and acrobatics (ÔÓ¼¼¶¯×÷).
Beijing Opera uses special imagery (ÒâÏó) in creating the characters. All roles are divided according to
sex, personality, age, profession and social status (µØλ). Hangdang is the general term for role types in
Beijing Opera. There are four types of roles in Beijing Opera today, namely, the sheng, dan, jing and chou.
The sheng is the male protagonist (Ö÷½Ç), the dan the females protagonist, the jing (painted face) a male
supporting role with different characteristics. And chou (clown) a comic or negative figure for the protagonist. The four role types come from the large number of roles of earlier stages in the history of Beijing Opera.
There are many schools of Beijing Opera, with different styles. The music is beautiful and facilitating,
and the stage an is bright and colorful.
