What will the future be like? It’s possible that we may often fly up into space! Out of all the coolest inventions of the year 2004, Time magazine chose SpaceShipOne as the best.
SpaceShipOne is a 6-metre-long white spacecraft. On June 21, American pilot Mike Melvill flew it to space and back—about 100 kilometres up into the sky. Some might say it’s not a big success. You know, people went to the Moon years ago.
Well, SpaceShipOne is special because it is the first spaceship that wasn’t made by the government. It was built and sent up by a private US company. Lots of people want to travel in space and think that it is an enjoyable trip. But it’s too expensive. American millionaire Dennis Tito paid almost US $20 million to become the first space tourist to visit the International Space Station in 2001. So private companies began to think of making their own spacecraft to take other tourists up into space.
Certainly, the success of SpaceShipOne is a good start. In the next 10 to 15 years, if you
pay $20,000 to $100,000, you could fly high above the Earth in a special suit.
Can you imagine having your own spacecraft in your garage and taking it to space at the weekend?

【题目】阅读下面的短文,根据文中信息完成文后表格。(每空一词)
What colour is your name? What colour is Wednesday? These questions might sound strange to most people, but some can answer right away. One person says her name is the colour red. For another person, Wednesday is blue. These people have a condition called synesthesia (通感). This means they experience two senses at the same time. For these people, the senses
of smell, sound, sight, touch, and taste are not separate (分开的). They might see and also hear
colours, for example, or hear as well as feel sounds.
The most common form of synesthesia is to hear sounds as colours. A person with synesthesia might hear the number “three” as blue or the letter “D” as red. Someone might always see green upon hearing the word “April”. Another person might see different colours while listening to music. Some people also taste colours. To one person, beef might taste blue and to another, yellow. Some people experience feelings in colour. For example, one person with synesthesia reports feeling pain as the colour orange.
Another form of synesthesia is to experience sounds or tastes as shapes. Some people see music as squares and circles (圆形). Some people taste a sweet as a smooth ball.
There are other forms of synesthesia, as well. For one man, different words have different tastes. Some words taste like pork; others taste like potatoes or eggs.
Synesthesia is not a common condition. Perhaps only one person in every 5,000 has it. For these people, the everyday world can be interesting.

Steve Jobs was famous for starting Apple Computers. In a speech to graduating students at Stanford University, Jobs told students about some of his life-changing experiences. Jobs believed these experiences helped him achieve success.
Jobs’s own mother was a college student. As a young mother, she felt unable to bring Jobs up so she put him up for adoption (领养). Jobs’s adopted parents were simple working-class people. When Jobs was 17, his parents used their savings to send him to college.
After six months of college, Jobs found he couldn’t see the value in it. He had no idea what he wanted to do with his life and no idea about how college was going to help him figure it out. And he was spending all of the money his parents had saved. So he decided to drop out (退学).
Jobs was lucky because he knew what he loved to do. He started Apple Computers in his parents’ garage (车库) with a friend when he was 20. In just ten years, Apple grew into a $2 billion company. However in 1985, Jobs was fired (解雇) from the company. Jobs was surprised. He lost everything at once. He quickly realized that he still loved what he did, and over the next five years, he started two highly successful companies. Later, he worked for Apple again and lived every day as if it was his last.
