There was a young woman who took great pride in the gardening. Her flower garden was second to none.

One day while she was looking through a flower catalogue (目录) she often ordered from,a picture of a plant immediately caught her eye. M I have to have it,M she said to herself, and she immediately ordered it.

When it arrived, she already had a place prepared to plant it. She planted it at the base of a stone wall in her yard. It grew vigorously (苗壮地) ,with beautiful green leaves all over it,but there were no blooms.

One morning weeks later,as she stood before the vine (藤) ,she felt very disappointed that her plant had not bloomed. She decided to cut it down and plant something else in its place.

It was at this point that her neighbor, whose wall joined hers, called her. ”Thank you so much! You can't imagine how much I have enjoyed the blooms of the plant you planted. " The young woman walked into her neighbor's yard, and she saw that on this side of the wall the vine was covered with blooms. They were indeed the most beautiful blooms she had ever seen.

With rising food prices, growing population and environmental problems, many people are worrying about how we will feed ourselves in the future.

Some scientists believe insects will become a staple (主 食) of our diet. Insects provide as many nutrients (营养物) as ordinary meat and are a great source of protein (蛋白质) . About 1,400 species are suitable as food for humans. Many people already eat insects as a regular part of their diet. Wasps (黄蜂) are a dish in Japan, and crickets (潘缚) are eaten in Thailand.

In the future, land and fresh water will be in increasingly short supply. It is possible that people need to find a reliable food source in the ocean. Scientists have already found one at the bottom of the food chain — seaweed. It has long been a staple in Asia, and countries including Japan have huge seaweed farms. The great thing about seaweed is that it grows at an amazing rate.

Scientists are also working in the lab to solve the problem of food shortage. A few years ago,European scientists successfully produced lab meat, also known as cultured (培养的) meat. The experiment was funded by NASA to see if lab meat was a kind of food astronauts could eat in space.

During the daytime, many people are busy using their cell phones. They only have time to charge (充电) them at night when they are asleep. But scientists have warned that having a glowing smartphone in your bedroom at night could not only affect your sleep,it could also make you fat.

When darkness falls, our bodies begin to produce a hormone (荷尔蒙) called melatonin (视黑激素) . K helps our metabolism (新陈代谢) so that our bodies can change food and drink into energy. When the sun rises, melatonin reduces. This light-dark cycle is good for our health.

But if you charge your phones when you are asleep, the phone releases blue light. Although it is not bright enough to light up a room,it can affect your sleep. Therefore,it slows down your metabolism and influences your body to digest (消化) food. This may make you fat.

"Blue light is bad for health because it keeps the mind buzzing," Simon Kyle,a sleep scientist at Manchester University, told the Daily Mail. And there is strong scientific data to show the connection between sleep interference (干扰) and people's health.

Earlier this year, leading scientists from universities including Oxford,Cambridge and Harvard, warned that a lack of sleep could cause serious problems, such as cancer, heart disease and obesity.

Kyle suggested turning off smartphones and desktop computers a few hours before going to bed. This helps to reduce people's exposure (暴露) to artificial (人工的) light.
