【题目】
Cruises are becoming more and more popular, with around 20 million passengers per year now enjoying holidays on board luxury ( 奢侈的 ) ships. More people see a cruise as the perfect way to sit back and do nothing, and enjoy time off work. But what is the effect on the environment of this trend?
Although it usually takes less energy for a vehicle to move through water than over land, cruise ships are often massive, with the biggest ones carrying up to 6,000 passengers. Moving such large vehicles requires huge engines which bum as much as 300,000 litres of fuel a day. One scientist has calculated that cruise ships create as much pollution as 5 million cars going over the same distance. Because they are out at sea, they also burn dirtier fuel that isn't allowed on land. Unfortunately, no government has control over the amount of air pollution out at sea. Cruises also produce huge amounts of rubbish, and cruise ships aren’t usually good at recycling. Waste water from showers and toilets is usually poured directly into the sea - as much per day as from a small town. Waste food from restaurants isn’t put into the sea, but still causes problems when brought back to the land.
Cruise ships also cause difficulties in the cities where they stop. Popular destinations can get five or six ships per day, with thousands of tourists at a time. Good for restaurants? No. Restaurant owners complain that the visitors look around for a few hours and then return to their ship to eat. What’s more, the crowds can put off other tourists, who complain that the streets are too busy.
Some towns have banned (禁止) cruise ships or put a limit on the number that can stop at the same time. People who care about the environment worry that as the cruise industry continues to grow, so will the issues for our planet.

A. It’s brought into a town. B. It’s properly recycled.

【题目】
The first time I went to Grand Canyon National Park, I knew I wanted to work there as a park ranger. Park rangers protect the parks’ animals, plants, land, buildings, and people.
Now, as a park ranger for Grand Canyon National Park, I share the science, history and beauty of this park with thousands of visitors from around the world.
National parks are like outdoor museums. Park rangers have all kinds of jobs, depending on where they work and what they studied during college. I teach school field trips, work at visitor centers and help people stay safe during their visit.
My favorite part of my job is showing children their first look at the Grand Canyon during school field trips. Children are often amazed at the canyon’s size and colors. Sometimes, they think it looks like a painting.
Being a park ranger requires a lot of energy. I walk several miles and talk with hundreds of people each day. Nearly 5 million people visit Grand Canyon National Park every year. Park rangers must enjoy working with people and speaking in front of groups.
Park rangers must also be prepared for any situation. Recently, I broke up a traffic jam (堵塞) caused by a huge elk (麋鹿) standing in the road. Elk can become dangerous when they get scared, so I asked visitors to stop their cars and take pictures from far away. Believe it or not, I also help protect people from squirrels (松鼠). It is not allowed to feed wild animals in national parks. But sometimes, visitors try to feed squirrels.

【题目】All living things need energy to live and grow. This energy comes first from the sun. Plants use water and sunlight to make their own food. Animals can not make their own food, and they eat plants. Other animals then eat the plant eaters.
A food chain shows what eats what. It might show that zebras eat grass and then lions eat zebras.
Lions also eat other animals. Zebras eat other kinds of plants. So it takes more than one food chain to show how lions and zebras get their energy.
A food web shows how food chains work together. From it we can see how energy moves from plants to animals.
Plants and animals that live in hot, dry deserts depend on water as well as food. Creosote bushes have small leaves that hold water. Their seeds provide food and water for kangaroo rats. Kangaroo rats don’t need to drink water. They get all the water they need from the plants they eat. Kangaroo rats keep cool by coming out only at night to look for food. Ringtail cats also come out only at night. Ringtail cats hunt and eat kangaroo rats. Coyotes eat both the kangaroo rats and the ringtail cats.
Nothing is wasted in a food wed. Vultures eat dead animals. Vultures are scavengers. Scavengers do not hunt and kill other animals to get food. They eat animals that are already dead. When a ringtail cat or a coyote dies, it makes a meal for the vultures. Scavengers do an important job in keeping the environment clean.
【1】Where does the energy that living things need first come from?
A. Animals. B. Plants. C. The sun. D. Plant eaters.
【2】Why do ringtail cats come out only at night?

A. Kangaroo. B. Vulture. C. Cat. D. Zebra.
