The Healthy Habits Survey shows that only about one third of American seniors(年长者) have correct habits. Here are some findings and expert advice.
1. How many times did you brush your teeth yesterday?
·Finding:A full 33% of seniors brush their teeth only once a day.
·Step: Remove the 300 types of bacteria(细菌) in your mouth each morning with a battery-operated toothbrush. Brush gently for 2 minutes, at least twice a day.
2. How many times did you wash your hands or bathe yesterday?
·Finding:Seniors, on average, bathe fewer than 3 days a week. And nearly 30% wash their
hands only 4 times a day---half of the number which doctors recommend.
·Step:We touch our faces around 3,000 times a day-often inviting germs(病菌)to enter our mouth, nose, and eyes. Use toilet paper to avoid touching the door handle. And, most important, wash your hands often with hot running water and soap for 20 seconds.
3. How often do you think about fighting germs?
·Finding:Seniors are not fighting germs as well as they should.
·Step: Do you know it is not your toilet but your kitchen sponge(海绵)that can carry more germs than anything else? To kill these germs, keep your sponge in the microwave for 10 seconds.

A 14-year-old British student is packing for the next day of school: textbooks, notebooks, pens, 250 grams of flour, an egg and some cooking oil. Wait, what? It’s not a joke.
From September, cookery will be a compulsory (必修的) course for kids aged 7-14 in the UK. Primary school students will learn how to put things together and make simple, healthy food. At high school, students will then master a number of different meals. They will also learn some cooking skills including baking.
Britain is sometimes known as a country with bad food and unhealthy eating habits. These new courses are part of the country’s effort to bring healthy food back onto the table.
“One in four British families no longer has a table that everyone can eat around. One out of every two meals we eat is eaten alone. Only four out of ten of us enjoy eating meals with our children,” British writer Joanna Blythman wrote in her book Bad Food Britain: How A Nation Ruined Its Appetite in 2006. Instead, ready meals have become the first choice for many British kids, because their parents are often too busy to cook a proper meal.
“It’s important that children can develop an interest and understanding of good food,” said a spokesman of the Department for Education. “We want to encourage them to develop a love of food and cooking that will stay with them as they grow up.

Every day in China, about 200 million children go to school. Many of them take school buses. What should we do to keep these students safe on the road?
On April 5, the State Council (国务院) published new rules about school bus safety. These new rules are stricter than the old ones.
Under the new rules, local governments must make sure that students go to nearby schools or boarding (寄宿的) schools to reduce traffic risks. Also, local governments must help kids in the countryside reach their school buses.
From now on, school buses have a speed limit (限制) of 80 km/h on highways and 60km/h on normal roads. While on the road, other cars must let school buses go first.
The new rules also say that school buses must never be overloaded (超载的).
There are many other rules as well. A school bus must have more than seven seats. On each bus, there must be at least one adult to keep an eye on the kids. Each school bus must have a fire extinguisher (灭火器), a first aid kit (急救箱) and a GPS.
Last year, a series of school bus accidents happened in China. To stop such accidents, the Central Government decided to strengthen (加强) the rules for school buses.

At East China University of Science and Technology, students will get a coupon(优惠券)if they eat up their food. Students can collect coupons and exchange them for small gifts, such as books , magazines, mobile phone covers and hand warmers.
"It's been such a surprise," said Liang Zhaoyun, 19, a student at the university in Shanghai. "It has given us one more motivation to finish our food."
The measure is part of a national "eat-up" campaign (行动) which is organized by students to deal with food waste on campuses(校园)。

Because according to a report by Xinhua News Agency, students waste twice as much food as the national average (平均) .The campaign on campus food waste is receiving attention across the country." The aim of the campaign is not only to encourage students to finish their food. We hope it can also encourage students to choose a more environment-friendly and healthy lifestyle, said Tao Siliang, secretary of the Youth League Committee at Shanghai University.
But some school food is poorly prepared, so students do not like to finish it all. Some schools have taken notice of this and they are taking measures to improve it.
"I'm glad that we've reduced food waste since the ' eat-up' campaign began. But if we call on students to waste less food, we should also improve the service and food standard on campuses. " said Tao.

In the modern society, the traffic problem has become more and more serious, which has aroused(引起) wide public concern(关心), especially in the rush hour , at some time or other, people would rather walk on the street than drive the car, and the line people waiting for the bus can be as long as 10 meters. Because a great number of office workers go to work and go off work at the same time, most private cars and buses are on the roads at the same time, which of course leads to traffic jams(交通堵塞).
But how to solve it? As far as I’m concerned, for one thing, the government should build more roads to meet the needs of cars; for another, we should call for people to take a bus instead of driving their own cars. At times, we can also ride bikes to go to work or visit somewhere. Not only do we strengthen ourselves in this way, but also we protect the environment. In a word ,if all of us take actions to solve it, I believe there will not be a word named traffic jam .
