The way we spend our time can be divided into three groups, or “jars”. These would be the necessary tasks jar, the voluntary tasks jar and the happiness jar.
Every day, we spend time filling the necessary tasks jar. We fill this jar with useful things, like making money, housework, buying food and paying bills. We then fill another jar with voluntary tasks. These are things that we do for others, but we may not enjoy them. This jar is filled with tasks like taking children to activities and cooking family meals. Those jars are very important. If we don’t fill them each day, our family won’t run properly.
However, we often forget to fill the third jar --- the happiness jar. This is the jar that we fill with activities that make us happy. Is your happiness jar sometimes empty at the end of the day? We all have days like that. Between doing all the necessary and voluntary tasks, time flies by on some days, and before we know it, it is time for bed.
That is why each day we try to fill our happiness jar. Most days, I fill mine by going to the ballroom dance(社交舞) class with my husband and daughter. Between the music, the dancing and the friendship among the students, I always leave classes happier than when I entered.
Music is another way that I fill my happiness jar. This week, I was happy to take part in an orchestra(管弦乐队) practice at my church(教堂). A small group of us met to practice Christmas music for a church service. It was a time of fun, friendship and music making. At the end of the evening, my happiness jar was full.
This week, consider how your time is spent. Are you doing enough activities that bring joy to your life? Or are the necessary and voluntary tasks eating up all your time? Try to find ways to achieve a balance between how you are filling your three jars. At the end of the day, hopefully we’ve done all we can to make sure that our happiness jar is filled.
1.From the first three paragraph, we can infer(推断) that ____________.
A. necessary and voluntary tasks are more important than happiness
B. voluntary tasks are those we do for others with pleasure and joy
C. time goes quicker when we do the first two tasks than the third
D. doing the first two tasks often leaves us little time to fill the third jar
2.Which of the following is TRUE about the writer?
A. She is always unhappy when she attends the dance club.
B. She goes to the ballroom dance class to make herself happy every single day.
C. Dancing and music are the two usual ways that she makes herself happy.
D. She takes her husband and daughter to dance club in order to make them happy.
3.What can we do to fill the happiness jar according to the passage?
A. Wash clothes B. Watch a film C. Mop the floor D. Look after children
4.What can we know from Paragraph 4 and 5?
A. The writer took a class at church to practice music.
B. The writer finds friendship is important for her happiness.
C. The writer was invited to attend an orchestra as she is good at singing.
D. The writer was going to listen to music at church at Christmas.
5.The writer wrote this article mainly to _______________.
A. tell readers how to relax in daily life B. tell readers the best way to use their time
C. remind readers to take time to make themselves happy D. tell the importance of necessary and voluntary tasks

I will never forget my experiences in the United States. I went to an American college a year ago. Yet I did not know the real American society until I was hurt in a car accident because after the accident I had to see a doctor and go to court(法院).
After the accident, my roommate called a doctor for me. I was very grateful and decided to repay him one day. But the next day, he asked me to pay him $200 for what he had done. I was amazed. He had good reason to charge me, he said. And if I wanted to collect money from the person who was responsible(负有责任的) for my accident, I’d have to have a good lawyer. And only a good doctor can help me get a good lawyer. Now that he had helped me find a good doctor, it was only fair that I should pay him. But every day I went to see the doctor, I had to wait about 50 minutes. He would see two or three patients at the same time, and often stop treating one so as to see another. Yet he charged me $115 each time. The final examination report consisted of ten lines, and it cost me $215. My lawyer was all smiles the first time we met. But after that he avoided seeing me at all. He knew very well the other party was responsible for the accident, yet he hardly did anything. He simply waited to collect his money. He was so irresponsible that I decided to refuse his help. And he made me pay him $770.
Now I had to act as my own lawyer. I told the insurance(保险)company the date I was leaving America because of my inexperience(缺少经验). Knowing that, they played for time and I left without getting a cent.
My experiences taught me two things about America: firstly, in a country like America money is everything. It is more important than friendship, honor or professional morality. Secondly, foreigners are still being unfairly treated. So when we talk about America, we should see both its good and bad sides.
1.The writer’s roommate offered to help him because________.
A. he thought it was a chance to make some money B. he felt sorry for the writer
C. he knew the doctor was a very good one D. he wanted the writer to have a good lawyer
2.A good lawyer is important for the writer to __________.
A. be well treated by the doctor B. talk with the person responsible for the accident
C. get what he should be paid for his injury D. get well before he leaves that country.
3.Both the doctor and the lawyer in this passage are very__________.
A. selfish B. friendly C. rude D. busy
4.The underlined word “charge” in the second paragraph means ______.
A. 职责 B. 掌管 C. 索价 D. 命令
5.What conclusion can you draw from the story?
A. Going to court is something very common in America.
B. One must be very careful while driving a car.
C. Money is more important than other things in the US.
D. There are more bad sides in America than good sides.

Minnal shared that most of the eight days were spent hiking ten to fifteen kilometres from 8a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, with the help of three local guides. Luckily, she added, nobody fell ill with altitude sickness. She also said that she is thinking of climbing Everest in the future.
