根据短文内容回答下列问题
Say “No” to plastic bags
In order to stop plastic pollution, China put a ban(禁令)on thin plastic bags (plastic bags thinner than 0.25 mm). From June 1, 2008, China stopped the production, sale and use of these plastic bags. It stopped shops from giving out free plastic bags to the public and call on the consumers to adopt healthy shopping habits to protect our environment.
Why are plastic bags so bad?
China’s plastic bag consumption(消费量)has rocketed to near three billion bags per day—that’s about 2 for every man, woman and child —causing many tons of plastic to go to landfill sties.
The bags can take between 400 and 1,000 years to break down, and like all forms of plastic they do not biodegrade. They clog(阻碍)waterways and spoil the landscape. They also pollute the soil and water.
Plastic bags also present a serious danger to animals. They often mistake them for food. Thousand of them die each year after swallowing or choking with discarded(丢弃的)plastic bags.
Finally, producing plastic bags requires millions of gallons of petroleum(石油)that could be used for transportation or heating.
What can we do?
Refuse plastic bags in shops, and try to recycle or reuse the ones you do have. But a cloth bag/ basket and keep it with you when you need to go to the shops.

Taking away a city’s rubbish is a big job. Every day trucks come into a city to collect it. Most rubbish is made up of things we can’t eat or use. If we kept these things we would soon have a mountain of rubbish.
In some cities the rubbish is collected and taken outside of city to a dump. Often the city dump is placed where the ground is low or there is a big hole. The kitchen rubbish is broken into small pieces and sent into the sewage system. The sewage system take away the used water from toilets, bathtubs(浴缸) and other places.
To keep nice and flies away, some earth is used to cover the newly dumped rubbish. Later, grass may be planted on the rubbish-filled land. Finally, a house or school may be built there, and then you’d never know that this had once an old rubbish dump.
In other cities the rubbish is burnt in special places. The fire burns everything but the metal. Sometimes the metal can be used again in factories where they slowly change into something called humus, which looks like black earth. It is rich with the kinds of things that feel plants and help make them grow.

Once every 30 seconds there is an earthquake(地震). But don’t worry because most are so weak that they can’t be felt. Only a few hurt people. But many earthquakes happen in China, so it is important to know what to do when one hits. Here are some good ways on how to stay safe in an earthquake.
● If you are indoors during an earthquake, hide under a desk. Stay away from windows and anything that could fall on you.
● If you are outdoors, try to move away from buildings and street lights. These could fall on you.
● If you are in a shop and far from the door, do not run outside. Everyone will be doing that and you will find it hard getting out. Hide under a desk. Do not get into a lift(电梯)during an earthquake.
● When an earthquake has ended, be careful because aftershocks(余震)may still happen. These are just as dangerous as the earthquake itself. So stay under the desk until you really think it is safe to get up.
● If you are at home and you smell gas, open a window and get out of the building quickly. A gas line in your house may be broken. This could be very dangerous.
● Make sure you wear shoes after an earthquake. There may be broken glass on the ground.
