　　Don’t circle your plate with your arms．If you do so, you will become the focus (焦点)of the table．Everyone would wonder, “Is there anything wrong with the food?”This may give a wrong message that you don’t like the food or something like that．

　　Don’t push the plate back when finished．Leave it where it was．Do you want to let the hostess(女主人)know that you’ve just done a labour?

　　Don’t lean(倚靠)back and say“ I’m through” or“ I’m full”．Just put the fork and knife across the plate．That’s all．

　　Don’t cut up everything before you start to eat．Cut only one or two bites(块)at a time．

　　Never take a huge mouthful of anything．Do you want to show how hungry you are?Don’t do that．It’s not so good．

　　It’s never good to reach across the table for anything．If the thing you want is not at hand, simply ask the nearest person for help, like“Mrs．Smith, could you pass me the dish?”

　　After he left college, Steven Jobs worked as a video game designer．He worked there for only several months and then he went to India．He hoped that the trip would give him some new ideas and give him a change in life．

　　Steven Jobs lived on a farm in California for a year after he returned from India．

　　In 1975, he began to make a new type of computer．He designed the Apple Computer with his friend in his garage(汽车库)．He chose the name“Apple”just because it could help him to remember a happy summer he once spent in an apple tree garden．

　　His Apple Computer was such a great success that Steven Jobs soon became famous all over the world．

　　They flew to London and arrived at their hotel late one evening．They had expected that they would have to go to bed hungry, because in that small inn in New Jersey, no meals were served after seven．They were surprised when the waiter asked whether they would take dinner there that night．“Are you still serving dinner?”asked Mr Smith．“Yes, certainly, sir, ”answered the waiter．“We serve it until half past nine．”

　　“What are the times of meals then?”asked Mr Smith．“Well, sir, ”answered the waiter．“We serve breakfast from seven to half past eleven in the morning, lunch from twelve to three in the afternoon, tea from four to five, and dinner from six to half past nine．”

　　“But that hardly leaves any time for us to see the sights of London．”said Mr Smith．

The word“day”has two meanings．When we talk about the number of days in a year, we are using“day”to mean 24 hours．But when we talk about day and night, we are using“day”to mean the time between sunrise and sunset．Since the earth looks like a ball, the sun can shine on only half of it at a time．Always one half of the earth is having day and the other half night．A place is moved from day into night and from night into day over and over by the spinning(旋转)of the earth．At the equator(赤道) day and night are sometimes the same length(长度)．They are each twelve hours long．The sun rises at 6 o'clock in the morning and sets at 6 o'clock in the evening．For six months the North Pole is tilted(倾斜)toward the sun．In those months the Northern Hemisphere(半球)gets more hours of sunlight than the Southern Hemisphere．Days are longer than nights．South of the equator nights are longer than days．For the other six months the North Pole is tilted away from the sun．Then the Southern Hemisphere gets more sunlight．Days are longer than nights．North of the equator nights are longer than days．Winter is the season of long nights．Summer is the season of long days．

　　One morning an old man left his house with six donkeys(驴)．After a time, he got tired and got on one of them．He counted the donkeys and there were only five．So he got off and went to look for the sixth．He looked and looked, but he did not find it, so he went back to the donkeys and counted them again．To his surprise, this time there were six．So he got on one of them again and they started．After a few minutes, he counted the donkeys again, and again there were only five!He became confused(困惑的)．Just then a friend of his passed him．The old man said to him,“I left my house with six donkeys．Then I had five, then I had six again, and now I have only five!Look!One, two, three, four, five．”
