　　Soon computers and other machines(机器)will be able to remember you by looking at your eyes!The program works because everyone’s eyes are different．So in the future you won’t have to remember a number when you want to use a machine or take money out of a bank．You’ll just have to look at the machine and it will be able to tell who you are．

　　The eye-recognition(眼睛识别)program has already been tested in shops and banks in the USA, Britain, Spain, Italy and Turkey．Soon this technology(技术)will take the place of all other ways of finding out who people are．

　　However, scientists are also working on other systems．Machines will soon be able to know you from the shape of your face or hand or even your smell!We already have machines that can tell who you are from your voice or the mark made by your finger．

　　Eye-recognition is better than other kinds because your eyes don’t change as you get older, and don’t get dirty like hands or fingers, and even twins have different eyes．So the eye-recognition program can be up to 94％ correct, depending on how good the technology is．However, some other programs may only be 51％ correct at present．In Britain, it was found that 91％ of people who had tried it said that they liked the idea of eye-recognition．

　　Each summer 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group．Everyone works for several hours each day．The purpose of this program is not just to keep busy．It is also to find meaning and enjoyment in work．Some teenagers work on the farms near the village．Some learn to make furniture and to build houses．The adults teach them these skills．

　　There are several free hours each day．Weekends are free, too．During the free time, some of the teenagers learn photography and painting．Others sit around and talk or sing．Each teenager chooses his own way to spend his free time．

　　When people live together, rules are always necessary．In this program the teenagers and the adults make the rules together．If someone breaks a rule, the whole group will discuss the problem．They ask,“Why did it happen?What should we do about it?”

　　One of the teenagers has this to say about the experience,“You don’t only think about yourself．You learn how to think about the group．”

　　The Nobel(诺贝尔)Peace Prize for 2008 was given to Martti Ahtisaari．He was the president of Finland from 1994 to 2000．He won the prize for his work in solving(解决)international conflicts(冲突)for more than 30 years．

　　During all his life, both as president and as an international officer, he has worked for peace．For the past 20 years, he has done a lot to resolve several serious international conflicts．Some of these conflicts had lasted for years．In 1989-90, he played an important role in helping Namibia’s independence(独立); in 2005 he did his best to help solve the Aceh question in Indonesia．In 1999 and again in 2005-2007, under very difficult situation he found ways to help solve the conflict in Kosovo．In 2008, together with other organizations, he has tried to help solve many of the problems in Iraq．He has also made great contributions(贡献)to solving the conflict in Northern Ireland, Central Asia, and on the Horn of Africa．

　　“This work has made a more peaceful world in Nobel’s spirit,”the officer said,“so he has won the prize．”

　　Terrafugia Company has said that its flying car, named Transition, has successfully finished a 37- second test flight

　　On March 5, 2009, at Plattsburgh International Airport in New York．It was piloted by Phil Meteer, the company's chief pilot．

　　Transition is a two-seat airplane that can take off and land at airports as well as drive on roads．

　　The company said that the flying car can travel at speeds up to 115 mph for 450 miles in the air, drive at highway speeds on the ground, and fold up(折叠)to fit in a garage(车库)81 inches wide, and 80 inches high．

　　This could be used in hospitals to transport patients so as to avoid road traffic．It may start running on wheels, and when it gets to traffic lights it can fly overhead the lights and keeps its way forward．So it’s good news to avoid traffic problem and the traffic accidents．

　　But some people say this is a going airplane rather than a flying car, at least on the appearance．Anyway, we are happy for scientific-technical progress, what a fantastical world in the near future!

　　Every 30 seconds there is an earthquake．But don't worry because most are so weak that they cannot be felt．Only a few big ones hurt people．

　　Many earthquakes happened in China, such as the big one is Sichuan last year．Thousands of people died in it．So it's important to know what to do when one hits．Here are some tips on how to stay safely in an earthquake．

　　If you are indoors during an earthquake, hide under a desk．Stay away from windows and anything that could fall on you．

　　If you are outdoors, move to a clear place．Try to be away from trees, signs, buildings and streetlights．These could fall on you．

　　If you are in a shop and far from the door, don't try to run to outside and rush for exits(出口)．Everyone will be doing that and you’ll find it hard getting out．Don't get into a lift during an earthquake．Just hide under some strong covers near you．

　　When an earthquake has ended, be careful because after-shocks may still happen．These are just as dangerous as the earthquake itself．So stay under the desk until you make sure it's safe to get up．

　　If you are at home and you smell gas, open the windows and get out of the building as quickly as you can．A gas line in your house may be broken．This could be very dangerous．
