　　Snowflakes(雪花)seem like white stars falling from the sky．But they don't always look white．Sometimes they appear to have other colors．Some are red, yellow, or black．There have been snowflakes of almost every shape．Think how it would seem to have these coining all around you．Wouldn't they look pretty?

　　Black snow came down in France one year．Another year gray snow fell in Japan．It was found that such snow was mixed with ashes．This made it seem dark．Red snow has come down in other countries．When this happened．it was mixed with red dust．That is why it looked different．Most snow looks white, but it is really the color of ice。It is ice that comes from snow clouds．Each snowflake begins with a small drop of water．More water forms around this drop．The way the water freezes gives the snowflake its shape．

　　No two snowflakes are of ever just the same size or shape．All start out flat and have six sides．Some snowflakes are broken when they hit the ground．Others melt(融化)as they fall．When air is cold and dry, the falling snowflakes are small and hard．If the air is wet and warm, the snowflakes are big and soft．

　　Would you be surprised to see snowflakes as big as your head falling from the sky? It happened once in our country．It could happen again．

　　Overhead bridges are found in many parts of Nanjing, especially in places where traffic is very heavy and crossing the road is very dangerous．

　　The purpose of these bridges is to enable passengers to cross road safely．Overhead bridges are used in very much the same way as zebra crossings．They are more efficient although less convenient because people have to climb up a long flight of steps．This is inconvenient especially to old people．When passengers using a zebra crossing, traffic is held up．This is why the government has built many overhead bridges to help passengers and to keep traffic moving at the same time．

　　The government of Nanjing has spent much money in building these bridges．For their own safety, passengers should be encouraged to use．They can't risk their lives by running across the road．Old people may think that it is a little difficult to climb up and down the steps, but it is much safer than walking across the road with all the dangerous of moving traffic．

　　Overhead bridges serve a very useful purpose．Passengers, both old and young, should make it a habit to use them．This will prevent unnecessary accidents and loss of life．

　　He needed to get up before sunrise every morning to help his father on the farm．During sunrise he would take a break and climb up on the fence along the side of the farm．He could see a house with a golden windows．“If they could afford golden windows, then there must be other nice things inside the house．” He imagined how great it would be to live there．Then he promised himself,“Some day I will go there and see this wonderful place．”

　　One morning his father would go to the town and told him to stay at home for a rest．Knowing that this was his chance, he took a sandwich and headed across the field towards the house with the golden windows．

　　As the afternoon went on, he began to realize how wrong he was．The house was much father than he had expected．As he went near the house, he saw no golden widows but instead a place in bad need of painting．A small girl very close to his age came out of the poor house and stood be the broken fence．He asked her if she had seen the house with the golden windows．The girl said,” Sure, I know,” and invited her to sit on the porch(门廊)．As he sat there, he looked back from where he just came．There he saw the sunset(夕阳)turned the windows of his house to gold!Now he understood that everyone had his own house with golden windows．

　　A famous foreign company in China wanted a Clerk for its public relation department(公安部)．

　　A beautiful girl with a master's degree(硕士学位)went through a lot of challenges and her name was on the list．In the final stage she faced an interview together-with another girl．Both of them were outstanding, not only in looks but also in education．

　　The girl was successful in the interview．It seemed that she would get the chance．At last the examiner asked her, "Can you come to the office next Monday?" Shocked by the unexpected question, the beautiful girl couldn't make a decision at the moment, so she said, "I have to talk with my parents before I give an answer．" The examiner felt surprised but said calmly, "If so, let' s wait till you are ready．"

　　The next day, the girl came to tell the examiner that her parents had agreed to let her begin work next Monday．But the examiner said regretfully(遗憾地), "Sorry, another suitable candidate(选手)has got the job．You had better try another place．"The beautiful girl was surprised．She asked for an explanation and was told, "What is needed here is a person who knows her own mind．"
