　　Like hundreds of other young people of all countries who take part in our language courses, you can make the most of your holidays by studying French in an interesting way and, at the same time, discover one of France’s most beautiful areas－Nice!

　　Our summer course lasts 3 weeks in July and August．You’re welcome to come at any time between July and August 6．You can choose to stay at a host family, but we suggest you stay at our international summer camp．It makes it easy to meet other people and make new friends．What’s more, you can have your classes in the same building which is close to the beach! A free bus service brings you to and from classes if you are living in a French host family or enables you to get into the centre of town if you are living at the summer camp．

　　Whenever you choose to come, we’ll organize short trips, parties, sports and other activities and motivate you to speak French．

　　Your stay in Nice will therefore not only be an educational one, but also an enjoyable experience．Besides offering you many opportunities to meet other people from different cultures, we will do everything to make sure your stay will be unforgettable!

　　Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived：Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love．One day the feelings were told that the island would sink, so all built boats and left, except Love．Love was the only one who stayed．Love wanted to hold out(坚持)until the last possible moment．

　　When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help．

　　Richness was passing by Love in a big boat．Love said,“Richness, can you take me with you?”

　　Richness answered,“No, I can’t．There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat．There is no place here for you．”

　　Love decided to ask Vanity(虚荣心)who was also passing by in a beautiful ship．“Vanity, please help me!”

　　“I can’t help you, Love．You are all wet and might damage(破坏)my boat,”Vanity answered．

　　Sadness was close by so Love asked,“Sadness, let me go with you．”

　　“Oh…Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!”

　　Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her．

　　Suddenly, there was a voice,“Come, Love, I will take you．”It was an elder．So thankful and happy, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going．When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way．Realizing how much was owed(欠)the elder, Love asked Knowledge, another elder,“Who helped me?”

　　“It was Time,”Knowledge answered．

　　“Time?”asked Love．“But why did Time help me?”

　　Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom(智慧)and answered,“Because only Time is able to understand how valuable(珍贵的)Love is．”

　　For better eyesight(视力), doctors advise limiting(限制)the hours of screen time and encourage having enough eye resting time．

　　However, another study shows that sitting in front of computer or TV screens for long hours is not the only reason for myopia(近视)．An Australian research team studied young children in Sydney and Singapore to find the reasons for myopia．The research team found that there were less children who had myopia in Sydney than those in Singapore, even though they spent more time in front of computer and TV screens．The major finding is that children in Sydney spend longer hours on outdoor sports than those in Singapore．

　　Indoor and outdoor sports both make the eyes pay attention to more distant(远处的)objects, which stops the eyes from changing original shape．But outdoor sports may be better than indoor sports for myopia．Because natural light is good for eye growth and vitamin(维他命)D from the sunlight might be useful to it．Many doctors suggest that every child get its first eye test when he/she is about two and half years old, and even if his/her sight seems good enough．It is necessary for myopic(近视的)children to wear glasses to stop headaches, trouble reading and so on．It is also important that schools invite doctors to test their students’ eyes．

　　If that is not possible, school teachers should at least encourage parents and children to have regular eye examination and wear glasses．And parents should remember not only to limit the total screen time for their children, but also to encourage them to spend time outdoors．

　　Plants are very important living things．Life couldn’t go if there were no plants．This is because plants can make food from air, water and sunlight．Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight．Animals get their food by eating plants and other animals．So animals and man need plants in order to live．This is why we find that there are so many plants around us．

　　If you look carefully at the plants around you, you will find that there are two kinds of plants：flowering plants and non-flowering plants．

　　Flowering plants can make seeds(种子)．The seeds are protected by the fruits．Some fruits have one seed, some have two, three or four, and some have many seeds．But a few fruits have no seeds at all．An example of a fruit without seeds is the banana fruit．

　　Most non-flowering plants don’t grow from seeds．They grow from spores(孢子)．Spores are very, very small．Some spores are so small and light that they can float(漂浮)in the air．We may say that spores are quite the same as the seeds．When these spores fall on wet and shady(阴凉的)places, they usually grow into new plants．

　　GM plants are not natural．No one knows how good or bad they are．Making GM foods is only one way of feeding people in 2050．There are strong feelings against them, because they are unnatural．They may feed people, then hurt them or their children later．But, both rich and poor countries are very interested in their use, and they are not going to go away．In 2050 we may think differently about them．
