“Dreams may be more important than sleep. We all need to dream,” some scientists say.

Dreams take up about one quarter of our sleeping time. People have several dreams each night. Dreams are like short films. They are usually in colour. Some dreams are like old films. They come to us over and over again. That may be because the dreamer is worrying about something. Dreaming may be a way of trying to find an answer.

Some people get new ideas about their work from dreams. They may have been thinking about their work all day. These thoughts can carry over into dreams.

Sometimes we wake up with a good feeling from a dream. But often we can't re member the dream. Dreams can disappear (消失) quickly from memory (记忆力).

Too much dreaming can be harmful (有害的). The more me sleep, the longer we dream. The mind is hard at work when we dream. That is why we may have a long sleep and still wake up tired.

1.It may be less important to sleep than to ________.

[ ]

A.think
B.dream
C.work
D.study

2.Dreams and films are usually ________.

[ ]

A.very long
B.in colour
C.about work
D.very sad

3.why do some people often dream about their work?

[ ]

A.Because they are tired in the day time.

B.Because they are not interested in their work.

C.Because they may be thinking about their work all day.

D.Because they have too much work to do.

4.The main idea of the story is that ________.

[ ]

B.people like to sleep

C.dreams are like films

D.we always remember dreams

Some people have very good memories (记忆力), and can easily learn quite long poems (诗) by hearts. There are other people who can only remember things when they have said them over and over.

Charles Dickens, the famous English author, said that he could walk down any long street in London and then tell you the name of every shop he had passed. Many great men of the world have had wonderful memories.

A good memory is a good help in learning a language. Everybody knows his own language by remembering what he hears when he is a small child. Some children - like boys and girls who live in foreign countries with their parents - seem to learn two languages almost as easily as one. In schools, it is not easy to learn a second language because the pupils have so little time for it, and they are busy with other subjects as well.

The human mind is rather like a camera, but it takes photographs not only of what we see but of what we feel, hear, smell and taste. When we take a real photo graph is finished and ready to show to our friends. In the same way there is much work to be done before we can make a picture remain for ever in the mind.

Memory is the diary that we all carry about with us.

1.________ have good memories.

[ ]

A.Some great people

B.Only great people

C.The children who live in foreign countries with their parents

D.The pupils who study a second language in schools

[ ]

A.looking at them over and over

B.saying them over and over

3.Everybody learns his own language by ________.

[ ]

A.taking photographs with a camera and remaining them in the mind

B.being taught when he is a small child

C.remembering what he hears when he is a small child

D.going to other countries

4.According to the passage, it is ________ to learn a second language in their own countries than in foreign countries.

[ ]

A.slower
B.easier
C.quicker
D.more difficult

5.Which of the following is true?

[ ]

A.Memory is very important in learning a foreign language.

B.A person learns his own language by remembering what he hears when he is born.
