　　Beijing Opera is also called Peking Opera.It came into being after 1790 when the famous four Anhui opera troupes(戏班) came to Beijing.Its music and singing(唱腔) come from Xipi and Erhuang in Anhui and Hubei.Its costumes are all fascinating and artistic.It is the highest expression of the Chinese culture.

　　It's full of famous stories,beautiful facial paintings,and wonderful gestures and fighting.This kind of opera is very popular with Chinese people.

　　There are four main roles in Beijng Opera:Sheng,Dan,Jing and Chou.Sheng is the leading mate(男性) actor.For example,a Wusheng is a soldier or fighter.A Xiaosheng is a young marl.A Laosheng is an old man.Dan is the female(女性) role.Jing,mostly male,is the face-painted role and Chou is the comedy actor or clown.

　　Stories in Beijing Opera are very interesting.Some of them are from the history book,but most of them are from the literature,especially famous novels.The people in the story usually have some disagreements.

They become angry and unhappy.They are sad and lonely.Sometimes they are nervous and worried.Then they find a way to make peace.The stories usually end with happiness and laughter and people are all happy in the end.

　　People have been finding Moon rocks and Mars rocks at the South Pole．Why the South Pole? It seems that the South Pole (Antarctica) is a really good place to look for them and to find them．

　　Part of the reason for this is that Antarctica is a very large slab of ice sitting on a bed of rock. The ice doesn't stay still．It moves，ever so slowly，from the centre of Antarctica down to the coast (海岸)．

　　When meteorites (陨石) fall on the Antarctic ice，some stay on the surface but most get trapped 　 a few metres down．After all，they do come down with some force and heat!

　　The meteorites get caught up in the ice as they move to the sea and a few million years later most of them reach the coastine．

　　On the way to the sea some of the ice passes round mountain ranges where the meteorites get dislodged．In other words，the ice presses them to the surface．

　　Anywhere else on the earth the meteorites either land in the ocean or cover themselves underground in the soil，never to be seen again．

　　In Antarctica，the little black rocks show up very nicely against the white background.

People who live where there are trees and where there is a completely different climate aren't so lucky!

　　Computers can help many workers．They can also help thieves．There was a thief who worked in a bank in the USA．He paid for everything he needed by writing a check．Then he told the computer not to take any money from his account for the checks he wrote．The bank's computer did what he said．And it did not take any money from his bank account．One day the computer broke down．People had to do the computer's work．They soon found out what was happening．

　　Another thief who worked for a bank saw people filling in deposit forms(存款单)．Many of these people did not know their account numbers，so they wrote only their names on the forms．They left the place empty for their account numbers．The thief wrote his own account numbers in the place．When the computer read these forms it looked only at the account numbers．It did not look at the customers' names．It paid the money on these deposit forms into the thief's account．

　　Then there was a bank worker who told the bank computer to take ten cents off every customer's account each month and put it into his own account．For a long time the bank's customers did not notice that they were losing ten cents every months．But then someone did notice and told the bank．That was the end of that little game!

　　No one really knows how much computer crime is costing the banks，but some people believe it is millions of dollars a year．
