Why is pink or purple for girls and blue or brown for boys? The answer depends largely on cultural values as well as personal experiences. Green was a sacred (神圣)colour to the Egyptians, representing the hope and joy of spring. Red is a symbol of good luck in many cultures. In China, children are given money in a red package to bring good luck in the new year. For many nations, blue is a symbol of protection and religious (宗教的)beliefs. Greek people often wear a blue necklace to protect themselves.

People's choice of colours is also influenced by their bodies' reactions (反应)towards them. Green is said to be

the most restful colour. It can reduce pain and relax both body and mind. People who work in green environment have been found to have fewer stomach aches. Red can cause a person's blood pressure (血压)to rise and increase people's appetite (食欲)• Many restaurants like to use different shades of red. Similarly, many websites will have a red "Buy Now" button because red is a colour that easily catches a person's eye.

Blue is another calm colour. Unlike red, blue can cause people to lose appetite. So if you want to eat less, some suggest that eating from blue plates can help.

The next time you are deciding on what to wear or what colour to decorate your room, think about the colour carefully.

Do you obey the rules in your school? What do you think of your school rules? Are you allowed to dye (染) hair? A lot of school rules are similar around the world, but some are different. Some students may enjoy more freedom in some countries. But freedom doesn't mean "no rules". Every school has its own rules.

The students must get to school on time. If they are late, they cannot get into the school because the school gate is closed. In Japan, students are not allowed to have part-time jobs.

American schools have their own rules too. For example, at Morton High School, students are not allowed to
choose their own clothes. They must get to school or leave school on time. Food, drinks or snacks shouldn't be
