请阅读下面短文,在短文后表格中的空白处填上适当的单 词(注意:每空1个单词) 。
Stop Smoking Now—We Can Help!
In almost every US city and town, there are local organizations to help people stop smoking. One of the most popular and successful is the California Smokers 5 Helpline. Here is a page from one of their leaflets.
When you really want a cigarette— try the three Ds:
1. Delay : Look at your watch and wait for a couple of minutes. If you can wait two minutes, you won’t want to smoke.
2. Drink something : If you drink water or some other drinks, you will reduce the need to have something in your mouth.
3. Deep breathing: Breathe in slowly and deeply. Count to five when your lungs are full. Then breathe out slowly. Repeat several times.
And here are some ideas from Florida Anti-smoking Club to help people to give up smoking:
1. Make a plan: Make a list of friends who smoke and places where you smoke.Don’t see those people and don't go to those places!
2. Keep busy: Instead of smoking, make a phone call, take a short walk or talk with a friend.
3. Develop new interests: Exercise walking, biking, jogging, swimming or taking a music class—helps you to forget about cigarettes.
It is now against the law for anyone to smoke anywhere at any time in our schools. So set a date, and act at once to give up smoking for your own good.

Passage 10(2013江苏苏州常熟,C)
Do you have a mobile phone? Do you send text messages to your friends and family?
Text messaging or “texting” is becoming very pop- ular. But,scientists have discovered that texting can give us problems with our hands.Be careful!Too much texting can cause swelling (肿胀) in our thumbs and wrists. Our thumbs are not made for pushing small buttons, over and over. Scientists call this problem RSI.
We spoke to a doctor called Harriet Wilson, who treats many pa?tients with RSI. She said we needed to see how much time we were spending in typing text messages. If we are spending more than 10— 15 minutes at once,we could have problems in the future.
We also talked with Dr Harjeet Deepa who treats RSI patients. He told us that the youngest patient he had treated was a five-year- old girl. She wasnH doing well at school,so her parents took her for treatrnent.lt was found that she had such bad RSI in her hands, she couldn’t hold a pencil.
As mobile phones develop, they are getting smaller with buttons closer together. Texting with a smaller phone is worse than using a larger phone with bigger buttons. Using a computer keyboard and pla?ying video games can also cause the same problem. So,more and more people couldn’t find themselves with RSI.
Many university students and teenagers have RSI,as they do not know the risks (冒险) of spending so much time using computers, video games and mobile phones. If we don't do something about this, too many young people could grow up in terrible pain.

Passage 8(2014江苏盐城亭湖区,C)
I love my Blackberry mobile phone—it's my little connection to the larger world that can go anywhere with me.I also love my comput?er's it holds all of my writing and thoughts. However,I know there are times when I need to move away from these things and tmly com?municate with others.
I teach a course called History Matters in college. My goals for the class include a deep discussion of historical subjects and ideas, because I want students to fully study the materials and discuss with each other in the classroom. I have a rule—no computers,iPads, phones, etc. When students were told my rule, some of them were not happy.
Most students think my reasons for this rule include negative ex?periences in the past when students made wrong use of technology. There's a bit of truth to that.I've seldom had students make wrong use of technology in my classes; however,I have been e-mailed by students while they were in other teachers, classrooms.
Some students think that I am anti-technology. There's no truth in that at all.As I noted above,I love technology and try to keep up with it.
The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversations. Interruptions (中断) by technology often break students thoughts and make them depend too much on outside infor?mation for ideas.I want students to dig deep in themselves for ideas.I want them to push each other to think differently and to make con?nections between the course material and the class discussion.
I have been teaching my history class in this way for many years and the evaluations (评价) show student satisfaction with the envi?ronment that I create.Students realize deep conversation and difficult tasks and they learn at a deeper level—a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom.
I am not saying that I won^ ever change my mind about technol?ogy use in my history class, but until I hear a really good reason for the change,I will continue my plan. A few hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up.

A. similar B. unforgettable C. special D. unpleasant

C. The writer encourages students to agree with others after discus?sion.
D. Students are unhappy with the writer's way of teaching history.

For a long time being happy was considered something that just happened, and there was nothing special about it.Now we know that getting along with other people is something that we can work at.It is possible to act in such a way that other people will like us better. One way is being unselfish, not wanting everything from our friends. Another way is to look for good points, not bad points in other people. It is surprising how successful this treasure hunt can be.

Many young people become discouraged (灰心丧气的) when they know in themselves qualities that they do not like—selfishness, laziness, and other unpleasant qualities. Just remember that we all have some of these faults (缺点) and have to fight against them.
At the same time,it is important to remember that while you are probably no worse than others, the best way to be happy is to think yourself above other people. When something is wrong,it is good sense to try to make it right. Perhaps you do not like a teacher or a classmate.Try to see why,and look at yourself, too,to he sure that you are not doing anything to make that person dislike you. Some day, things may turn out all right when you have to learn to get along the best with the situation, without thinking too much about it. Wor?rying never helps in a situation you cannot change.
