宇宙从表面看上去，繁星璀璨，和谐有序，好似一座上满发条，便可安然运行的钟表。其实，就像水面游动的鸭子，我们只看见它悠然平静的身体，看不见水下划动的双脚。一些天体运行在异常怪异的轨道上，连世界顶尖的天文学家也会被搞得一头雾水。比如距离地球200光年的“开普勒16B”，这颗冰冷荒凉的行星竟然围绕着两颗恒星公转，这是天文学史上不可思议的一幕。
天文学家一直以为，两颗恒星的引力会把行星的轨道扭曲搞乱，甚至会将其撕碎，总之，它们不可能和平共处。
但摆在人们面前的是，“开普勒16B”却正平静地在两颗恒星间转动，不慌不忙，有条不紊。在“开普勒16B”上每天傍晚上演双日落奇观，像科幻小说描述的一样神奇。
在宇宙中，如此靠近恒星的行星并不少见，甚至可以用司空见惯来形容。比如最近发现的WASP-18b，它距离恒星的距离比地球距离太阳近50倍，不到一天就可公转一周。
因为WASP-18b距离恒星太近了，导致它们彼此都有些扭曲，炽热的恒星将其表面炙烤得处于熔融状态，一百年后就会被恒星化掉。难以挣脱的引力还使得它越发地靠近恒星，所以毁灭的命运是注定无疑的了。
黑洞吞噬大恒星
2011年底，美国天文学家目睹了天文观测有史以来最大的爆炸，辐射光芒比1000亿个太阳都明亮，它就是人们一直在教科书上了解的“伽马射线暴”。
开始飞来的强光让科学家们莫名其妙，不知所措。伽马射线暴是转瞬即逝的闪光，过一小时又重现。与近半个世纪前观察情况不同的是，本次伽马射线暴尤其强烈，持续数小时后，仍不停释放X射线，且无停止的迹象。
持续观测，天文学家才弄明白事情的原委——遥远星系中一个超大质量的黑洞，从休眠状态中突然苏醒。起初几颗恒星围绕着这个黑洞旋转，保持在安全的范围之内。其中一颗渐渐地靠近黑洞，惊动了这个沉睡中的巨兽，它释放的巨大引力将靠近的恒星越拉越紧，甚至变形扭曲，最终将它撕裂。恒星的残骸在黑洞的四周打转，温度升至数百万度，两道耀眼的伽马射线暴骤然射向太空。
黑洞在吞噬恒星时，只掳去它一半的物质，另一半则被狠狠地抛出去。其过程是宇宙中最具暴力的事件，它们为此而散发的巨大能量，是人类难以想象的。
恒星离“家”去流浪
最新观测发现，一些恒星正以惊人的速度逃离银河系。此外，宇宙中流浪恒星的数量远比人们想象的要多，在回放哈勃太空望远镜保存的一系列资料后，对此现象天文学家终于给出了合理的解释。
物理学的定义是，引力会向内吸引，不会向外推开。可是天体物理的情况比较复杂，只有两个天体时，这个定义还有效，一旦多于两个天体，就会发生奇怪的事情，引力一样具有推离效应。只要角度与速度合适的话，它们不是相撞，而是一个会将另一个推开，前提是一定要有黑洞的参与。
比如有两颗超高速运行的恒星围绕着一个超大质量的黑洞旋转，在黑洞的引力作用下两颗恒星逐渐分离开，在合适的距离范围内，黑洞在以320万公里的时速弹射出一颗的同时，将另一颗吸入分解……
这使得无家可归的流浪恒星越来越多，它们闯入的威力足以破坏星系的安宁，甚至引发星系相撞的极端事件，这是重构宇宙的潜在力量。
