【1】 —I haven’t seen Jack these days.
—Er, I saw him ________(play) basketball on the playground this morning.
【2】—Do you know what made her so sad?
—________(fail) the final exam.
【3】Do you think, nowadays, the media has become more commercial and ________(entertain)?
【4】It is a waste of time ________ (warn) him — he is determined to go his own way.
【5】It was ________ develop creative thinking that I took the course, not to get high marks in examinations.
【6】—How did you manage to escape from the big fire last Wednesday?
—The couple ________ (live) next door woke me up and we called the firefighters.
【7】There are trees and flowers along both sides of the road leading ________ our school.
【答案】
【1】playing
【2】Failing
【3】entertaining
【4】warning
【5】to
【6】living
【7】to
Failing the final exam made her so sad.
分析句子可知,空格处与后面的not to get high marks in examinations是并列关系,后面的用不定式,前面也要用不定式。

In a recent announcement, Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT)said that they have joined forces to offer free online courses in an effort to attract millions of online learners worldwide.
Beginning this fall, a number of courses developed by teachers at both universities will be offered online through a new $60 million program, known as edX. “Anyone with an Internet connection anywhere in the world can use our online courses,” Harvard President Drew Faust said during a meeting to announce the plan.
MIT has offered a program called OpenCourseWare for ten years that makes materials from more than 2,000 classes free online. It has been used by more than 100 million people. 【题目】B
Have you ever been sad because of failure? Please remember, for often, achieving what you set out do is not the most important thing.
A boy decided to dig a deep hole behind his house. As he was working, a couple of older boys stopped by to watch. “What are you doing? ” asked one of the visitors. “I want to dig a hole all the way through the earth!” the boy answered excitedly. The older boys began to laugh, telling him that digging a hole all the way through the earth was impossible. After a while, the boy picked up a jar. He showed it to the visitors. It was full of all kinds of stones and insects. Then he said calmly and confidently, “Maybe I can’t finish digging all the way through the earth, but look at what I’ve found during this period!”
The boy’s goal was far too difficult, but it did cause him to go on. And that is what a goal is for-to cause us to move in the direction we have chosen, in other words, to cause us to keep working!
Not every goal will be fully achieved. Not every job will end up with a success. Not every dream will come true. But when you fall short of your aim, maybe you can say, “Yes, but look at what I’ve found along the way! There are so many wonderful things having come into my life because I tried to do something!” It is in the digging that life is lived. It is the unepected joy on the journey that really makes sense.
