阅读短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
Zambia is a country in southern Africa. More than half of the population is very poor, and companies pay people very little money for their work. One woman named Sylvia Banda had a dream to become a successful businesswoman and build her own brand (品牌). So, after finishing high school, Banda went to college to learn how to start a food company. She studied hard and spent her free time coming up with ways to make money, including making food and selling it to friends.
In 1987, when Banda was 24 years old, she decided to start her own restaurant. She borrowed a room and used food, and pans from her own kitchen. The first day, her restaurant did not have any chairs or tables, but she was able to sell all of the food that she had made. After counting the money, she was surprised that she had made more in one day than most people make in one month.
From that small restaurant, Banda built a large company called the Sylva Group. It now has hundreds of people working for it and is worth over a million dollars. Besides restaurants, the company has now built hotels and a college in Zambia, and it also sells many kinds of packaged (包装) foods. After reaching her goal (目标) of starting her own business and becoming rich, Banda decided to work to improve the lives of other Zambians.
She does this in a number of ways. For one, her restaurants use vegetables and other products (产品) made in Zambia, and by doing so, Banda can support the farmers. Her college also teaches farmers ways to make their farms better, which helps them make more money. The college also helps young Zambians get skills to start their own businesses. 【题目】阅读理解
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
When I was in my fourth year of teaching, I was a high school track coach (田径教练). One year, I had a student, John, who changed to our school from Greece, and seemed to be interested in sports, so I encouraged him to join our track team. I explained to him that even though he had never taken part in it before, I did believe that he could do well in any event, and l would be willing to teach him at whichever ones interested him. He accepted the offer, and began to work hard at every practice.
About a month later, I had found out from other ways that John was a first-class tennis player, winning many prizes in his home country. I went to him, asking, “John, I really enjoy that you came out for the track team, but why didn’t you play tennis instead? It seems that would interest you a lot more, since you’re so good at it.”
John answered, “Well, I like tennis, but you told me that you believed in me, and that you thought I could do well in track, so I wanted to try it for that reason.”
From then on, I often remember my student’s reply. I told it to a friend and she suggested I write it down to share somewhere with more teachers. No matter how critical (不满的) students can be of themselves, I’ve found that a simple “I trust that you can do it!” can go a long way!
